It is, to some extent, a left-wing thing. See for example the "Fat Acceptance" tag at Huffington Post. These people read like a parody of a certain strain of anti-responsibility thinking that's common on some parts of the broad left in the United States. We could really use an emphasis on the old school socialist muscle instead of "you go girl" for these broken souls.
