Anime. What's your opinion on it?

I have mixed feelings, but there are very few that I liked in recent years... they make them too commercial nowadays, trying to cram as many marketable ideas in them as possible... And when one that has potential is made they ruin it somehow (see shit 3D animation in Berserk 2016/2017)...

So basically I like some of it, that is well made with good or at least decent animation, with mature/violent themes and as little slice of life as possible... if it has needles panty shots, focuses mainly on some kid's school life or bullshit romances, then I'm pretty much out, unless the rest is really good enough to make up for that stupid shit.

Shows that I loved in no particular order other than how I remember them: Castlevania, Berserk (old one), Dragon Ball (all of them), Naruto+Shippuuden, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Attack on Titan, Gantz, Akira, Studio Ghibli stuff, and a few more, mostly older ones, pre 2010...

Shows that I only watch/ed because I either liked them at some point and didn't want to drop or just sheer loyalty to the franchise: Berserk (2016/2017), Bleach, Boruto, Fairy Tail and maybe some others I can't remember right now...

Shows I can't even: Sword Art Online(except like first half of Season One, before the plot shifts focus to shit romance), Death Note(I couldn't even try watching it, found the whole premise to be stupid as shit... I mean a guy can kill people with a notebook and somehow he gets caught doing it... literally gets caught using an untraceable weapon to kill people without ever being in their vicinity... did watch the live adaption though for some reason, didn't make me wanna see the anime any more, just confirmed that it's nonsensical) and like I said before anything containing/focused on Ecchi, Harem, Slice of life.

I also liked some Sport themed ones such as: Over Drive(cycling), Hajime no Ippo(Boxing), Captain Tsubasa, Eyeshield 21, Grappler Baki and KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple(Martial Arts)...

Wasn't there an anime that glorified and promoted incest, I'm not even joking. You don't see things like that in other media is what I like to claim.

You live a very sheltered life if you don't think other media has similar works. In fact, there is much, much worse out there throughout all forms of media from countries all around the world.

The worst thing I have ever seen in my life is 120 Days of Sodom and I'm sure that is only scratching the surface of what is available to the consumer.

That's all I'll really say on the subject, though. I encourage you to do some research on animated works from Japan as there is undoubtedly something you could enjoy. I understand if you'd rather not expand your horizons though. Some people prefer their comfort zone and that's fine.

I watched it and liked, just forgot to put it here :P I've seen plenty of shows in my teens and I'm still trying to keep up, but very few are catching my interest in recent seasons... and the few that do get canned/on hiatus after a couple seasons (damn you Kindgom and Arslan and D.Gray-man)

Imo, the reason for that is anime lacks a robust curation system. There's a ton of anime out there, but not a ton of people that watch it. Out of the thousands of shows out there, there's probably a handful that appeal to you. The problem is that you gotta sort through hundreds of Duck Dynasties to get your Game of Thrones.

I don't watch it. I was never exposed to it growing up and none of my friends watch it either. And I guess I'm not interested enough on my own to give it a shot.

I'm going to assume it's like all other forms of entertainment/art. Some is good, some is shit.

Keep in mind I also consider teenagers children (myself being in my mid-40s).

Er, anime is only there because it's a hobby of mine in particular, but it can apply to animation as a whole. I love animation and video games and even write on them, but I'm 21 now. At an age that old, while I still do love my media, I have serious fears I'm not doing what adult men should. I don't do things like watch football, enjoy porn, smoke or drink alcohol at all. A friend called me out on this, claiming you're never too old for such hobbies but it's a deep rooted insecurity that I'm not a real man even at this age.

Something's not quite right here. Now don't get me wrong, i've seen some crazy shit, but aging 20+ years in a year, that's wicked man. How'd you do it?
