So your excuse is that maybe, mental illness, made him sympathize with Nazis at a young age, made him drive his car hundreds of miles to a pro-white rally, get in his vehicle, plow into a crowd, put it in reverse drive away and get out of the vehicle and run away.

At what point does it even matter if he's mentally ill. If he wasn't taking his meds and he did all that, there's no rehabilitation for him, he's too much of a danger to society to ever be let free, throw the book at him.

If his beliefs are the same as the those at the rally he just took it a step further and did what they talk about doing, at some point mental illness can't just be used as another excuse.

If you show up at a rally organized by nazis and white supremacists, you deserve no leeway. Either you're so stupid that you didn't realize who the event was planned by, or you support their cause. After showing up and realizing what it was, a moral person would have joined the other side. People who support and attend white supremacist rallies where attendees are yelling, "Blood and Soil," or, "Jews will not replace us," are contemptible and deserve to be called white supremacists and nazis.
