Cool, thought you were famous for other things but oh well.
Oh and on topic, Superman is terminally boring.

Superman gives up a normal life and love? He literally leads a double life, works a normal job, has a fucking wife... Lois Lane.

And Batman literally does use his power and money for good... In the comics and the movies he is incredibly philanthropic, not to mention using his company and wealth in his vigilante endeavors. His parents were even more philanthropic and did as you suggest, everything they could to improve Gotham with their power and wealth... It didn't change much and they got murdered in an alley. Do you not understand the setting? Gotham is portrayed as being completely overrun with crime... Even with an incorruptible district attorney and police chief, upstanding mayor, etc... None of it matters because its just that bad. Batman realizes he can only stop Gotham's crime fighting fire with fire.
Well he leads a normal life so he can help and save people, as a reporter that gives him that cover, and as for leading a double life, sure he is vulnerable to some of those trappings. But like Spiderman for instance the man of steel leads a double life because while he might not ever pay the ultimate price for his decisions, they for instance Lois Lane can be punished for Superman's mistakes, as Lex Luthor and a few others have proven.

Batman uses his money for good but at what actual risk? See some spin off about superman being invincible which is true, but isn't that even more noble, think about it. he literally has NO FORCE placed upon him what so ever, and yet he still struggles and tries to do the right thing.

What the hell could be more noble than that, there is a reason Superman IS THE MAN! He is the pinnacle of what a man should be, and some of our best are.

As for Batman's fighting fire with fire, the only thing he proves is that he can just add to the problem make him self feel better about it and never actually DO anything about it.

Hell if Superman is guilty of the same thing at least he isn't actually HUMAN, so he might not really know the way Batman would as a MAN who can BLEED!

I think most of you are missing the point here.

Batman is basicly your every day Sherlock that can knows martial arts and is gifted detective/techie.
Batman also has personality around him which makes him what he is its not his fighting skills or toys its about how he views the world and the fact that he is willing to do everything bar kill i suppose kinda like supes to make sure the world is a safe place.

Also batman isnt really a super-hero he is more of a anti-hero kinda like the Punisher in the marvel universe a much needed balance between good and evil.
Yeah exactly love the way you put this Ebalina. You put it much better than me.

Batman is self-made and is 100% human. Superman was born with them... of course people would be more "connected" with Batman.

Um Batman is NOT self made, his parents and lot in life made him he made better choices than say Lex Luthor, but at the end of the Day he is Lex Luthor.

I mean, if you honestly think a guy who could make diamonds out of coal by crushing it in his bare hands while shooting it with his heat vision holds down a job to pay the bills, you are mental.

Kent as an "alternate identity" hasn't really been relevant to the character since he discovered the truth about his origins. Rather, Kent is a "convenient mask" that superman wears when he feels the need to act like a member of society. The real supes lives in the fortress of solitude, not an apartment in Metropolis.
    Thats not true at all.

Its through Kent he makes all his friends that forces him to make tough descisions sometimes like is their life worth more then others and so forth.

Its not that he needs his day job but its how he connects to the actual real world.

The onky connection Batman has to the real world os upper class parties and thats it.

His real persona doesnt really do anything most of the time

Superman is a super classic super hero. He is THE classic super hero. That's why he's boring. He has nothing special, nothing unique.

  7. #47
    Superman.

He is a literal god. An alien from another planet. Yet he is all humane.

Superman could make himself dictator. He could force his brand of justice on us all. He could kill all the evil doers.

But he doesn't. He respects freedom. Free will. Live. He uses his powers not to oppress, but to inspire. He always sees the good in people.

He symbolizes hope and what we could be if we let go of our pettiness and lust for power.

This strive represents a far greater moral complexity than Bruce ever has to face.

Superman is love and hope and compassion.

Dark Knight Rises was only good because of Joker. And this is Batman universe in a nutshell - he has more interesting villains, which makes story good.
They're still very popular movies, despite not being perhaps the best.

Also, nothing in any Batsy movie will ever match this:

Superhuman abilities are cool but a normal guy at the same level due to his intelligence and training is cooler. Which is also why Iron Man is much more interesting than Cap.

    Bruce Wayne was born wealthy.
Batman was not born a superhero.

I think Batman has had a lot of great material around the character. The comics have been some of the best one-shots, GNs, limited series and continuity runs consistently. They also have a fair number of films and television output that exceeds the quality of other superhero genre work; the Nolan films are the best SH genre films ever made, the Animated Series Dini & Timm are the best television writing in animation ever, the Burton films are iconic in style, the '66 television show is part of the American psyche, etc.

The quantity and quality of related material has made Batman very popular.

Depends on what type of story you want. Batman is mostly about Gotham. Superman can be anywhere. Which is why I prefer Suparman, you even have the tons of small shows for it. Lois & Clark, Smallville and the old Cartoon.

Batman by about six miles. Superman is boring, cliched, too over the top.

  15. #55
    Regrettably Batman is more popular.

Superman fights for truth, justice and the Canadian way.

Batman is a psychotic oligarch who squanders his abilities and wealth so he can get up in the middle of the night to beat up low level criminals. He fights for himself. This is the more generous interpretation of the character.

This comparison is as old and bad as the movie.

Superman is rated E (for everyone) and appeals to a very young audience, he is the Donald Duck of superheroes.
Batman on the other hand is way more nuanced, and most of the batman comics is rated M (mature).

So kids would naturally vote superman, but in general batman is a way more interesting and adult comic.

Batman appeals to teens for being a rebel. Adults would vote Superman

Ah, the old 90s trope of angsty and violent = complex and interesting.

A better poll would be Thor vrs Superman, another would be Wolverine vrs Batman.
