What is it with people trying to equate priceless, irreplaceable artifacts that are thousands of years old that are some of the only physical history left of an ancient civilization, and statues put up to commemorate traitors 50+ years after said traitors lost their war?

What ISIS is doing is actually an attempt to erase history in order to replace their own. What's happening with the traitor statues is removing objects that represent oppression and open sedition against the government that should have never been erected in the first place, while the history of that oppression and open sedition are still taught in every school in America.

Those monuments might offend some people, yes, but they are not causing any actual, immediate harm. Which is why there is no need - and justification - for them to be destroyed right there, right now and on the spot - especially not with highly dangerous substances that could get others seriously injured. And it can absolutely expected of people to take the proper route to (try to) get them removed.

I am not even arguing if they ultimately should be there or not. But the methods used to get rid of them are not acceptable.
