Sony Is Teasing "Something New" For PlayStation

They weren't a number titled and they were on a handheld. Nobody considers portaable ops a numbered title. They are all some barely canon prequel or sequel on a system that didn't sell as much as the system the previous titles were on.

I only hear about the metal gear psp games when people are talking about how fucked up the storyline is from any literature standpoint. The side note generally is they are not very good.

I'm not saying they're all great, but why talk about vice city stories when you can talk about san andreas? But just because the mainlines are better, doesn't make the psp ones bad.

But people do not hold them in high regard.... like ever. You never see youtube channels about games talkin about the PSP other than a joke. You always see people talkin about good ole handheld tendo games.

If Phones/Tablets was killing that market The Switch wouldn't be selling well.

Gaming on a dedicated handheld and gaming on a phone is two different experiences. Also the PSP sold great but was hurt due to how easy it was to pirate on it. The Vita was hurt due to poor support and stupid choices like the memory card.

If Sony just released a simple system with good marketing/support it would do fine.

This. I've never understood the argument about phones replacing handhelds. The vita and 3ds have some amazing, console quality games. Almost all of the games I've downloaded on my phone are throw away trash. Their awkward to hold. The controls are to basic. 50% of my phone battery is dead after a half hour of Mobius Final Fantasy. And the phone has calls and texts interrupting you. I've never seen the appeal. I'll take a dedicated handhold over my phone as a gaming device any day.

I'm so glad stupid ass click bait youtubers talk about psp games as a joke, but since i actually like video games I'm not gonna poop on a handheld system for games not being as great as their console counterpart. Not talking about a game doesn't make it bad. Do you see people talk about metal arms? No because it's more obscure despite being super.

Sony might do well with an Xperia phone that had the ability to dock those dualshock pads to the top/bottom for proper handheld gaming. That way people could use it like a normal smartphone, but also capture the traditional handheld market.

The only issue for the US is Sony isn't likely to release another CDMA phone, and the only GSM providers are Sprint/T-mo which have relatively shit coverage.

Don't see the PS5 getting announced until at lease next year. Even more so since they just released the PS4 Pro, That would be a really good way to piss off your fanbase.

Don't see them releasing another costly piece of hardware for awhile since they just release Pro and VR.

Honestly part of me hopes they do, and I hope it flops. I want these companies to stop this before it becomes an expectation.
