And that's why I don't just simply watch a series to begin with. Slogging through that faff to see if it's worth watching is a chore. When I ask a collective of fans and to a fault every single one of them lists the sex scenes, it gives an unfavorable impression.

And the backlash against that impression of the show in the years since don't really help either. Downplaying the criticism by saying "the nudity waned after the first few seasons" or "the newer seasons are amazing" only really says to me "you will not enjoy roughly the first half of the series", while still failing to answer the original question of why I might enjoy it after that. It's not like I'm going to just jump into season 4 or later and try to piece together what I missed on the assurance that "it's awesome".

To your credit, you both acknowledged the criticism and provided a real answer for why I should give it a chance. You and @Derah on the last page. Cheers to you both.
thank you. I was tired last night, so my answer was actually kinda brief.

Here's 3 reasons for why I feel like GoT is the best show I've seen in years.

1: as mentioned before, the story. You ask me to give you a summary of most TV shows, and it can be done. Breaking bad? A teacher with cancer begins developing and selling drugs and ends up going from a meek guy to Scarface over the years. Walking Dead? Random group of strangers kill each other amidst a zombie apocalypse. etc. Each of these shows have a character that is clearly the protagonist, the lead, the hero (or heroine) along with a supporting cast, and even if the rest of the characters start dropping like flies, these protagonists are untouchable. You see the story exclusively from their eyes, and their perspective. GoT however has a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE cast. This chart is only for the cast as it was during season 1 and it fails to include several other characters introduced in later seasons. And the story is narrated from the point of view of several people. There's several plotlines happening all at once, at different parts of the world, each of these interweaving and influencing one another in ways that are both unpredictable and unexpected.

From Arya's adventures across two continents, as she plots her revenge against those who killed her family, to Jon Snow's adventures in the north as he deals with his self-imposed exile and the threat of a monstrous enemy that will devour the world, to Daenerys' adventures on the other side of the world, as she goes from a meek and battered princess in exile, to the most powerful political force across two continents and builds herself up from nothing, to Sansa's neverending string of tragedies and abuses at the hands of people who treat her like property, to Robb's rebellion against the evil king that killed his father, to Tyrion's adventures as he uses his incomparable silver tongue to perform feats most would think impossible for a guy like him, to Sam's quest to prove his worth to a family that will never love him, to Jorah's quest to earn the love of a woman who will never love him back. And these are not even 25% of all the many many MANY plotlines that you follow in the show, each with their own protagonist, villain, and relevance to the overall overarching plot.

And, due to the unpredictable nature of the show, a lot of the plotlines you follow end up with their respective protagonist killed, or merging with other plots as the seasons advance. The story is just massive in scope, and very VERY well structured and put together.

2: The fight scenes. You wouldn't think a show set in medieval fantasy would be complete without their mandatory fight scenes. For the most part the fights are realistic (With the odd artistic license here and there) and very well choreographed. Its just a joy when a fight happens and you get to see the characters duke it out. Specially because there's pretty much no magic here, no wizards to break the balance of a battle. Along this point is the production values of the show. The first two seasons had an overall humble budget, which meant the fight scenes were few and far between and most of the "battles" in the war, took place offscreen, but as the show's popularity grew, so did its budget (Season 6 alone had a budget of 10 million dollars PER EPISODE) and it shows. There's movies out there with lesser effects than GoT. From the fantastic creatures like Direwolves, Dragons, Giants, Revenants and White Walkers, to things like Green Fire nuclear bomb equivalents, to massive epic scale sweeping battlefield sequences that don't shy away from the horrors of what medieval war feels like.

Make no mistake about it, GoT's battles are more or less the medieval version of Saving Private Ryan.

3: The characters. Its not often that I find a show where I like everyone. Even the people I hate, I also love to hate them. The villains are amazing, the heroes are amazing, the bystanders are amazing. They're all multi-layered three-dimentional characters with deep personalities and motivations. The clished caricaturesque bad guys are very few. Most of them are very complex personalities, with more to them than what meets the eye. Just when you think you've gotten the measure of them as people, they go ahead and do something that goes against your expectations of them. Which helps with the unpredictability of the show. I'm not joking when I say you'll grow to enjoy watching these people interact with each other, be them fighting, arguing, fucking, or just traveling together. As far as child actors go, they did an outstanding job picking up the children that worked on this show. Which again, its VERY rare in television.

These are in more detail, the top 3 reasons why you should give GoT a chance. I can almost guarantee you'll not regret it. And as I said before, I actually consider the sex scenes and the nudity the weakest part of the show. Not sexy enough. There's actual porn out there with better and more arousing sex scenes. These hardly even qualify as a warmer.

Por que odiar si amar es mas dulce? (*^_^*)

"Half made games" LOL. They spend literally years attempting to play the games themselves trying to encounter all manner of bugs. With so many scripts running in the background for literally thousands of things, something unexpected is BOUND to come up with ANY game, but especially bethesda games, because they offer such a sheer size of content. It's not for lack of trying. But hey, idiots will be idiots.

6 years after Skyrim we still don't have and we're nowhere near having TES6, but they're working on a GoT game. The GoT hype will die the moment the series ends...

This is not a bad thing for casual/new players, but it makes fans of the franchise sad.

Skyrim is the CoD of RPG's. CoD isn't a bad franchise, but it is easily digestable, and not too memorable since CoD MW2. I say the same about Skyrim: Big, beautiful, but generic, and forgetabble.
Single player game, 6 years after it's release still one of the of the most played games in the world. There's nothing generic and forgettable about Skyrim. Nice bait though, you did get me to bite.

Fair enough, although Minecraft would probably be best sandbox in that case.

Would any one be interested in something like this? The elder Scolls are high fantasy with orcs lizard men all that shizz wizards throwing magic very where. Game of thrones is below bloody lord of the rings in terms of low fantasy next to no magic and only humans that sounds horrible dull.

Once again, the amount of copies a game has sold has no bearing on its quality and if I need to link that page again I will. You're not using facts, you're spouting your ignorant opinion and attacking me because I won't concede.

Depending on what time during the lore of the world a game like this would be set, it would be horribly boring, low-magic, low-fantasy medieval stuff. How would you level? Drink wine and visit a brothel?

Pretty tough to envision this as a game, because playing one of the characters you know already would feel cheap, and being a commoner (or sell sword, for example) would lead to more potentially interesting stories, but also feel quite a bit like an ES game in a different environment.

Frankly, I think Bethesda does a good job world building. Skyrim, for all it's bugs and lackluster combat, offers a pretty detailed world and writing to back it up. If anyone has a better, even more open-ended rpg to suggest, I'm all ears.

I did try Witcher 3, but it hasn't stuck with me yet for whatever unknown reason.

I'd be curious to see what kind of game they'd develop. I mean, you can't compare it to ES exactly, there really isn't much in terms of magic or high fantasy stuff like someone else posted. Would combat just be nothing but swords and bows/arrows? Would it be one of those pure story driven games like the Telltale series(the GoT one for that one wasn't as good as the others IMO).

This sums up my stance pretty well.

I enjoy Bethesda games - granted, the newer ones less than the previous games, but still - but I have troubles envisioning them nailing perfectly what I'd want for a GoT game.

Doesn't sound like a real good idea to be honest. The material is simply too close to the material Bethesda already makes. Not to mention that Bethesda's biggest appeal is in the fact that they produce games that are closer to TTRPG's "settings" that modders can have fun with, which is often why people who buy Bethesda games are willing to overlook how half-assed they are.

Imagine if CD Projekt Red would make "Game of Thrones" like game (grey characters, showing how world and politics are brutal, etc.), but with open world and meaningful choices.

    Wait, they already did.

Here I am fully expecting this to be what their idea of a "paid mod" is supposed to be like for Skyrim, because I can't help but think that's what it would be; GoT built in an engine from...what, nearly 15 years ago? Such excitement. /s

I enjoy GoT, but I'd rather leave it in that medium, but so long as there's money to be made, I won't be surprised at efforts to turn it into a video game (of thrones).
