    He was a wimp?

And it took only a few years of non-wimps - Reagan, Thatcher, Kohl - to win the cold war without a shot being fired. None of those three was perfect, but they were the right leaders at the right time.

The Cold War was already being won in the 70s. No one knew it though.
Reagan raised taxes to spend billions on bullshit, and it was all for nothing. (One would have figured that he had better intel)

    Spare me the BS.

In the early 80s new weapons, Cruise Missiles and Pershings were being stationed all along the iron curtain - against the rabid protests of Socialists all over european NATO countries. All those leftists claimed, it would lead to a nuclear war in Europe. Six, seven years later it led to the peaceful collapse of the Soviet Union instead.

So confrontation and taking a stand against the Communist Dictatorship - a display of power - worked. And Carter was an epitome for weakness and indecision. He may have been a nice neighbor and talented peanut farmer, but not the guy to win the Cold War. Reagan was.

Now you showing up and claiming the opposite politics had lead to the same results is a reach at best.

The Era of Stagnation was a period of negative economic, political, and social effects in the Soviet Union, dubbed by a generic term "stagnation", which began during the rule of Leonid Brezhnev (1964–1982) and continued under Yuri Andropov (1982–1984) and Konstantin Chernenko (1984–1985).
Industrial growth rates declined during the 1970s as heavy industry and the arms industry were prioritized while Soviet consumer goods were neglected. In 1985 the Communist Party under Mikhail Gorbachev began efforts to accelerate development through massive injections into heavy industry. When these failed, the Communist Party restructured (perestroika) the Soviet economy and government by introducing quasi-capitalist and democratic reforms, which were intended to re-energize the Soviet Union but inadvertently led to its dissolution in 1991.

Spare me your BS...and the incredible ignorance displayed.
No one could have predicted the likes of Gorbachev.
Not one single "conservative" would have predicted the flagrant billions spent on a a useless idea as "Star Wars" SDI shit that had the former Soviets o-so-concerned and had them spending themselves into oblivion.

All of which added to the direct collapse of the USSR.

It sure as hell wasn't fear of US weaponry. (What a joke)
