    The immigration debate in 1980

Trying to figure out why the immigration debate today seems more toxic than it was in 1980. The video is so different than what we saw in last year's primaries.

Bush: good people, shouldn't be made second-class citizens
    Reagan: open borders

Funny to see Reagan totally out neoliberal Bush there.

The GOP is a horrific shadow of it's previous self. Reagan is rolling in his grave.

Reagan was a lot of rhetoric at the time. He also was an ardient proponent of free trade yet passed a 100% tariff on japanese electronic products

More so, "American Politics is a horrific shadow of it's previous self."

I liked the daily show from a few years ago. Where they showed a xenophobic character from pro wrestling and said they are having a far more civil discussion on immigration than government.

Reagan is one of the biggest neoliberals ever, so it's no surprise at all he feels that way.

Well Reagan was the last president to win California and New York.

No matter how your feel about him. The party certainly has taken a turn since then.

It's like you don't see what the left has become. It's like they perilously like policies that hurt the USA.

They want to buy votes with illegal citizenship. I am surprised Republicans haven't embraced this idea as well.

This literally doesn't mean anything. If they're illegal, they can't vote. If they're citizens, they're not illegal.

This is why they are trying to make illegals, legal. Also a lot of illegals have legal family members. If you're in the US illegally staying at your families home, who do you think your legal voting family will vote for?

Same group and time period that made the wealthy exponentially wealthier, while stagnating the lower classes, through legislation. How do you keep the lower classes from revolting against the upper classes? Why, you turn them against the socio-economic classes even lower than they are.

Facts and reason have never gotten in the way of either of these guys when it comes to politics. They believe whatever their God-King tells them. And you are entirely correct - if they are illegal, they can't vote. If they are citizens, they can, because they are not illegal.

What the GOP is actually trying to do is disenfranchise those legal voters, and the GOP calls them illegal to get their ignorant horde behind their movement.

It's almost like you care about fact and reason, when all of your posts show otherwise. What policies did your God-King tell you the "left" was hurting the USA?

Whomever they want. It's their LEGAL vote. Who did your God-King tell you they would vote for?

god king? whos my god king? Stay on topic, please leave out silly phrases.

Of course they can vote who ever they want, but that doesn't at all excuse buying votes with tax payers money and encouraging people to break the law.

But they aren't buying votes - you're just making that up because (and here's the God-King part - pay attention) you've been told to believe that - and you haven't bothered to research or learn any of this information for yourself.

Yes, because citizens voting is an awful thing, right?
