No, this is BS. People only bought into pathfinder because it seemed like not a lot of time. If they were told point blank that it is going to be 8 months, the rage threads that made Blizzard reconsider their position on flying would have simply continued. People were NOT fine with pathfinder not showing up in 6.1.

People were vocally upset weeks into WoD of not having flight. It didn't stop or slow at all at 6.1, and it ramped up more as time went on.

Granted, players were not unanimous in advocating flight and there was a healthy amount of players who were happy with no flight, let's not pretend that means people weren't surprised or upset. The expectation for flying in 6.1 was very real, despite the 'blow being softened' by Blizzard's early announced intentions to keep no-flying for the entire expo.

Non-artificial bloat is this: a dev puts some elite mobs to guard a chest and it turns out that the chest is the best source for some mats that are key for, I don't know, making a resistance elixir for raiding, but the mobs are elite and take half an hour to get through. This was unintentional, the dev did not foresee that the chest would be so important. People suffer by fighting the same boring mobs for a long time every day, they complain, they don't want to be fighting these stupid elites, they want to be fighting raid bosses. The dev fixes the mistake by putting the mats somewhere else in addition to the chest, everyone is happy.

Now artificial bloat: a dev does quests but he only manages to do 3 in 6 months. To make the 3 quests appear like a lot of content, he (a) time-gates them, (b) makes them exclusive to each other on each day (can do only one), (c) puts random rewards, and (d) requires player to kill not 10 mobs, but 500 mobs for each quest so that this feels "significant" and "important". We aren't done yet. People complain. And the dev is hearing them alright, but he sure as heck doesn't do anything. Because this bloat is there for a reason, he cannot just remove it, players will have nothing to do.

No flying and mob padding is artificial bloat.
Okay I get why you're using the term "artificially bloated" because it sounds objectively bad, but if you do find all "artificially bloated" content to be a bad thing there isn't a lot left in the game after the initial questing experience and running each dungeon once.

The quest designer you mention does his 3 quests then makes them part of a daily rep grind that players have to do for weeks or even months to get all the rewards (some TBC, most WotLK, Cata and MoP world content.)
Or instead of making the quests they just put in a rep grind, maybe with tokens (a good chunk of Vanilla and TBC world content.)
Crafting materials that are rare spawns and/or drops (pretty much all high-end crafting gear in Vanilla and TBC, other expansions to a lesser extent.)
Random rewards you've covered, but that includes all the dungeons and raids in the games.
The justice badge system (and its evolutions) also artificially bloats content by offering new rewards for the exact same thing with each content patch (TBC, WotLK, Cata and MoP heroics.)
If time-gating includes daily/weekly lockouts then that's another reason for you to dislike all the raids.

Also, if you consider traveling on your ground mount to be "artificial bloating" (though personally I find traveling places to be the most natural thing to expect in an open-world game) then it basically extends to all travel, so that would be the whole open world you have a problem with, at least beyond the first time through it.

So if you consider "artificial bloating" to be bad, what exactly do you like to do in this game? And if you think "artificial bloating" is okay in some cases, what makes you think it's an okay criticism here?

Well the response to flying not appearing in 6.1 prompted Blizz to think they could carry on without flying ever again so I doubt there was such a massive outcry of grumbling. It was only when we were told there wouldn't be any flying in 6.2 with Tanaan, or ever again, that something changed in the feedback to prompt the u-turn. It doesn't seem like that much of twist to conclude that flight not showing up in 6.1 was not such a major deal outside of the bubbles that "pro-flight" players inhabit.

People were expecting some sort of content to appear that would be the key to unlocking flight, and 6.1 did not deliver that. If 6.1 had included Tanaan jungle (as was originally planned when Bashlock made that post, I think) then I expect there would have been a bit more of an outcry. As it is 6.1 really doesn't deserve to be called a content patch.

Because they didn't add those types of end game zones. Tanaan was integrated into the continent from the start.

That mentioning it is irrelevant since they didn't have those zones and thus don't pertain to this part of the discussion. It changes nothing that Blizzard has been consistent with their post launch quest zones when they have not been designed as part of the continent modified/added in that expansion. Molten front was no flying. IQD was no flying. Timeless and Thunder were no flying. Argus is no flying.

If you don't get the point of that then why are you even commenting on it?
