The reason SD doesn't decline when their core members do stupid shit is because many people vote for them just to bring a point to the other side and will until real change comes about. Social democracy WAS socialist in nature; that's why the terms "originated" and "originally advocated" are used. An encyclopedia doesn't use past tense unless there is a reason for it.

Many have moved on from that - some not. Thus the progressive alliance (not to be confused with progressive alliance of socialist and democrats) was created as a replacement for the socialist international, and non-socialist parties are moving there (but even if socialism and social democrats are used in different languages they don't always mean the same).
