I've had great physics teachers that made me interested in a lot of things, many things not even related to the stuff we actually had to learn.

Also a great math teacher that could always explain things easily and even make jokes, so it was never boring.

It all depends on the person, whether it's the teacher that is supposed to inspire students and make them interested, or a career scientist that still needs to find passion and fun in his work. I personally find all famous scientists, inventors and astronauts that I've seen very interesting and they always showed great passion for their work.

You can also find mathematicians on youtube that deal with math problems and paradoxes in a fun and entertaining way.

Some people have fun by doing sciences, or learning new things, or quite frankly feeling superior to others through their scientist master race. As others said, in most cases you are likely just speaking of peoe that find different things fun.
I have found that there are indeed some goal driven people that seem to forbid themselves any downtime to have fun or any such thing.

My experience is entirely the opposite. Though I do know that with high levels of intelligence often comes excentric personalities. Many of the very intelligent, but obviously not all, have had a difficulty being social. But to say that they're not fun would be very unfair, just because they don't conform to what you find fun.

And those kinds of people are often successfull people of all walks of life. Success can make anyone arrogant.

The truth is devoided of emotions.
Science is all about discovering, proving, verifying, and demonstrating truthful things.

Fun is irrelevant. As this thread is.

I think it's the other way around. It's the certain type of people are more attracted to do a career in science. I'm a logical-minded person so it would make no sense for me to study a non-science degree. Whether or not other people classify my behavior as "emotionless" already happened before my science studies.

People going for these majors are usually more logical and rational people. They are also more intelligent(If you really don't believe it, 1sec of googling provides you actual scientific data). Obviously when two people are on so different levels on these areas, their humour and overall personalities are extremely different.

If you think it this way: The limit of mental disability(retardation) is about 70. Average IQ in most western countries is around 100. According to many studies, the average IQ of physics/astronomy/mathematic graduate is around 130. Just imagine that to them, interacting with person of average intellect is equal to that person interacting with mentally disabled person.

"Fun" is not an emotion, it is a pre cursor which can result in experiencing "happiness," which is an emotion.

How was that for "not fun" and "sciency."

I do agree that some scientists seem to have forgone "fun," but- I work in a science field and we have a blast everyday. The crazy stuff that goes on...... At times it almost seems more like the freshmen dorms than a workplace.

I would also say that any scientist that isn't having "fun" while studying science is probably in the wrong field.

We work hard and hold ourselves to high standards- but that applies not only to science for us, but for having fun as well.

Cause it is one of the jobs you do out of fascination and their lives revolve around it? Serious job, serious mindset? I dunno

Yeah, definitely does to a point. When lifelong belief in the earth being round and being 4 billion years old gets crushed by facts. Seriously what fun is there having the earth being only 6000 years old? It doesn't make any sense but yet it happens to be the case.

There are better forums to hang out in if you want to push this nonsense.

Aren't you the one who earlier was claiming that you don't post conspiracy theories?

I think you're pushing the "Born-again, annoying Christian" angle a bit too hard (note, not all Born-again Christians are annoying).
