    New nvidia cards coming soon?

Are the new nvidia cards coming soon? Anyone know the release date? Says q3.

Would a 750W psu be enough for the 2080 or what it's going to be called?

I did not say a 750w was needed. Go look back through my post history and you will see where I stand on psu's and buying overkill. I think he already has the 750 and was asking if it was still good enough.

I myself have never bought over a 650W and that was only because it was cheaper than the same brand of 550W

dunno if you were in school, but after 10 comes 11, not 20.

Tell that to Nvidia who skipped 800 series for Desktop. They like to do stuff different, and rumors are the new lineup is going to be 2000 series.

Nvidia is weird with their naming, but as 10xx is called 10 series, it's indeed quite likely the next will be 20 series.

Also, on topic.. It's likely we won't see new GPUs for consumers till Q2 2018. We may see a Titan or something, but I doubt we see any of the xx60,70 or 80 cards.

source? everyone's saying "according to rumors", but ALL of them failed to deliver a source.

First GeForce was 256, then came 2>3>4>FX>6>7>8>9 series, next came 100>200>300>400>500>600>700>800M>900 series.. And now we are finally on 10 series.

It doesn't take much to conclude the next series will likely be 20 series, much like we went from 100 series to 200 series.

You guys think 1080s will get any cheaper in the near future? Keep seeing them on sale for like ~$480-~$500.

    Looking to upgrade my 970.

They will when new generation is released, but Nvidia is kinda infamous for tossing older generations under the bus as soon as they have new toys in stock.

For now the rumor says the prices are going to rise because of memory shortage, I'm glad I got my 1080Ti when I did, it's more expensive now. Just for fun checked the place where I got it - 50 bucks more expensive now than when I got it half a year ago.

You can search the webs, but after the rather disastrous launch of Vega 56 and 64, the CEO of nVidia basically said "yeah, no new consumer GPUs any time soon, no need" in a tweet and on stage at an event.

Im too lazy to be arsed to look for it right now, but if im free later i might dig up a link if someone else hasn't already.

I'd say Q2 next year at the earliest. it's not like they have any competition driving them to cannibalize sales of their already very well performing and mature lineup.

There are solid rumors of a 1070Ti that will essentially replace the 1080, and at the 1070 pricepoint, to counter Vega 56, which is the only SKU that even kind of competes with nVidia above the midrange. The 1070 would also likely drop a few bucks around that time, too.

We weren't really taking about release window anymore..

But yes, Huang did say, that Volta consumer GPUs won't be coming any time soon.. And with the rumors of them having GDDR6, it's gonna be a while still, because Micron ain't making any yet.

Well, “maybe” on the GDDR6 thing. Everyone thouht GDDR5X was months out, but turned out, Micron had been making it for some time specifically for nVidia and just hadnt said anything. So, its possible they are making it, but given the “nah, no consumer Volta for a while yet” stance, probably not.

Only if you count 1070ti as a 'new card'. It only exists to destroy vega56's performance per dollar, thus confining AMD to the mid range.

If anything, we should see a nice jump for efficiency again. Honestly a solid 650 watt from a good brand like Seasonic will be enough. I currently run a 1080ti and 1800x with both having a slight OC on a Seasonic 650 watt psu and have zero issues.

GTC is end of March, so I'd guess April-May for Volta launch?

    "Um, actually"
    It went 2, 3, 4, FX 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000, 100 (rebadged 9000), 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 (rebadged 600/700 for oems), 900, 1000.

We're not on "10" series, we're on "1000", incrementing by 100's. At the same time, we're totally on the "10" system, because the "960" is part of both "9xx" and "900" naming system. There's.. not really any continuity.

Based off that, there's no 'conclusion' that it won't be 1180 or 2080. In fact, it's just as likely to change to yet again a new system like AMD did, like "nVidia 200X" or some silliness using names/abstract numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if it were something like "Blue 3 and 4, Yellow 5 and 6, and Red 7 and 8" or something awful.
