As someone who is in college I’m going tell you don’t have to have a job in the same field you studied. A degree atleast the way I see it is a token to show you put time to learning something. Reality is most companies want someone who A. Work and B. Compantent in following orders/rules. If you want to do something else go ahead and do it that’s the benefit of a free country.

I can't help but think about what information the people who post this whiney, nihilistic garbage leave out. What mistakes in life have they made that they're unwilling to take responsibility for? What actions are they refusing to take to improve their lives and relationships with others?

There's no shame in seeking guidance when life overwhelms you. However, if your gut reaction is to take it out on those around you because you're incapable of dealing with the pain and suffering of life, then you're simply a coward. Life is fucking hard, but you could always make it a lot worse than it could be.

Populists (and "national socialists") look at the supposedly secret deals that run the world "behind the scenes". Child's play. Except that childishness is sinister in adults.

What else did you expect to do after college, really?

Seems you need a bit of social life. That might help you to actually find some meaning in all this. Start a family.

Not trying to sound like a ass but you should seek mental help.

Also maybe seek a new job.

It's called a work-life balance. You're your own worst enemy here.

Also this. My job has absolutely nothing to do with my degree.

As a programmer I admit I expected something different. I dislike the job aswell. But beside that there is free time. Why aren't you changing something in your free time that makes your life more fun?

I am not living to work. I work to live. To live the way I want to live my life.

3 day work week. basically work half the time.
thats the only solution i can come up with.
we are working to much, but without work its also not gonna work out
( i only need to get another 25% more loan and i will change my contract to 3 days i guess)
then id be livin the dream ^^
Living like that - definitely the right way to enjoy your life as a programmer without having periodical burn-out.

Programming is pretty demanding job, you're much better at actually solving problems and getting right solutions (rather then just creating more work for later) if you take breaks.

Do NOT become a software developer unless you absolutely love to code. If at any point it feels like a job, walk away.

I dont want to sound like an asshole when I say this, but if you needed to go to school to learn how to program, then you probably should find another profession. Everyone developer I know making over 100k a year are all self taught out of love for the craft. I could not imagine writing code and not loving it, it would be worse than getting a CPA and working with other peoples money all day. . . . /vomit

This job/life is NOT for everyone.

    Welcome to the working world.

School all through childhood and teens, and go to work like a ant the rest of your life, have some baby ants, teach them the same ways and the cycle repeats.

Its called being a productive citizen. Its what we do, get used to it, you'll be doing it all your life unless you hit the lottery.

I am compeled to answer for so many reasons.

I won't comment the last part, I think you knew how people were going to react if I don't know what to make of it. Is it provocation ? Call for help ? Warning ? I have almost no information so I cannot give you any answer that you may want to listen.

Now and I hope you realize it that most of the answer are irrelevant to the topic. Most use words they don't understand the meaning, use generic advice, generic insult and most importantly lack enough perspective to understand that another answer is as relevant as their and the only perspective that really matter is yours.

If it is a personal hell for you, then yeah, it is probably exactly that. It is not "normal" because many other people more or less easily adapt to that, it is not the "normal" way to adulthood it is just a way. People tends to mix what is the norm, and what is normal. If that can be reassuring for you, to my perspective it is hell on earth a life like that, there is something dreadful to programmed life. Thinking that does not make me any less healthy than another, but it does make my life harder in a world that does not embrace difference from the norm, there are definitively places, but those are rares.

Like I said before, I don't know you, I am rather open-minded, highly empathetic but I simply do not have enough information. And both of us agreeing how your schedule is basically death incarnated (I may over exagerate) does not mean we are similar, we are probably more different than we are similar. So take whatever I can say with a grain of salt, and whatever someone said who does not see the issue with a truck load of salt, with luck I can however offer you some insight.

1° I insist again on "that's just how life work" argument is just plain stupid.
2° Life is going probably to be harsher on you than on many other people, not being able is something I found terribly unfair
3° From my perspective, the world is a terrible place as a whole. I am a being first motivated by his own moral goals and values and seeing how society works is just painful to watch. What I consider qualities are often considered to be unacceptable in that society, my strenght are considered weakness by many.
4° Unfortunatly, I cannot change how I feel. Moreover being nihilistic, what i consider important is not more important than what the other guy find important. I may dislike the world as a whole but I don't blame it for being different. It seems like a cosmic injustice to not be able to change my feeling about the issue.
5° I am smart enough to understand there is no cosmic injustice, just my own perspectice. I can't change the world and I would like to find balance to fit in what I want/need to fit.
6° Not knowing what we want in life but wanting something else is not that uncommon and it is not stupidity, it is intuition. Not knowing is another difficulty you have to face.

All this was inconsistent blatter about myself but if you can identify yourself to that situation I am glad, especially since I am throwing rocks in the dark, in random direction. What I am more sure of it that work does not suit you, you need to work on what you want and explore options. Not having any other information I can just do wild guess and speak about my own problem hoping another thinks like me.

I do fear this is lost in a sea of "that's just life, jackass, grow up" comment. I am free for PM, I actually like those.
(But mostly because I feed from other life, like a introspective social vampire, but still we glady discuss if not help)

Work stuff aside (change job) just try find a few hobbies for after work. Could be anything at all, keep swapping till you find something that clicks. For me it was hunting with friends and out on the unicycle. If i ever get bored of these id just try all sorts of other stuff. A guy in my town used to buy and sell items on ebay in spare time after work. Eventually he got fairly rich of it cut work hours giving him more time to enjoy other things. Now he is a millionaire. (i know i know seems like pure luck will never happen to me right?) never know unless you try was HDMI cables btw used to buy from china sell like 4x the cost.

What is a programmer's life like?

    The never-ending circle.

Wake up at 6 am or 5:30
    Drinking one glasses water
    Brush teeth
    Go to work
    Breakfast
    Working…
    Coffee break! Walking break!
    Working…
    Launch 12 am
    Working…
    Coffee break! Walking break!
    Working…
    Go to home
    Launch dinner
    Coffee and walking!
Reading book (it must be!) or reading internet article
    Shower and Brush teeth
Sleep 12 am or 1 am
What time do you get home from work? Also, you're not getting a lot of sleep (12am-1am to 5:30am-6am). I would work on that. Might attribute to your admiration of homicidal maniacs.

Sounds like you don't have a girlfriend and hobby.

If you're not that person who climbs the Mount Everest frequently that's a normal routine for a grown up despite you beeing a boring person.

Find something else that is real and interests you (other than daydreaming and reading books..) and see yourself as a mercenary that does the job for the income untill you find something that satisfies you more. Ignore stupid people at work - it's a waste of time.

Peoples lifes and their actions consist of three things: Love, Appreciation, Satisfaction. People do stupid things whenever they feel a lack of any of these.

Find out what of the three things mentioned above you desire most and try to balance/fix it.

    Examples:

If you seek love go dating, tinder, w/e, get a cat if nothing works
If you seek appreciation get socially involved, help people, or invent good things/projects at work....
If you seek more satisfaction have sex, work out, etc... You get it, right.

Your last statement is somewhat alarming though - find a real person who you can talk about your situation.
