Why would two expansions on Draenor be too much? The problem with WoD revolves around the substandard story, the cut content, and the rushed conclusion.

Not a problem at all. In fact, I would love it. But the general public would complain that is yet another expansion in Draenor, even if the setting, the ogre continent, would be drastically different and flavorful.

The thing is that Azeroth settings had more chances to be liked, because most of the lore has been semi establised, and most of the stories are, in fact, more of the same favourite theme, like elven civilization, Illidan and even Karazhan, putting Legion as an example.

With the ogre empire, they'll have to pull another MoP. The lore is almost inconclusive and most of it comes from Chronicles Volume II. If they decide to do an expansion in this setting, the new lore has to compete with the more everyday, establised, expected outcomes of many of the ongoing plotpoints and stories of Azeroth.

But if they pull the expansion like MoP, it will be amazing. That's for sure.

This could just be me tinfoil hatting something chronic and I'll admit that, but a part of me wonders if it's something related to Blizz trying to bury the leaks behind a ton of spam. Iirc it didn't start up until Gamescom and I don't think I've ever seen it this bad.

That was a massive leak, and every single blog and forum about WoW echoed the whole thing. It originated here, but it reached every corner of the Internet.

MoP's trademark leaked, WoD leaked in reddit/here, Legion leaked here. 90% of the players were still surprised by all of those announcements.

I'm all for swords and sorcery type things... The problem I have is "sticking" to it. I'd personally prefer we have it for a few expansions and sort of switch it up every now and again depending on where the setting takes us.

An ethereal and "Great Beyond" type expansion for instance would be a good place to pop more sci-fi settings up. Mind you I would not want that type of thing again for at least a FEW expansions.

I know, still if it was me, I'd sooner see a portal to another planet then...well space travel.

The only expansion I could maybe call filler is WoD. And not because of its quality or premise, but simply because we got very little out of it.

Garrosh and Kairoz opened the way to Draenor, they both died, we spent there two years and the only thing that came out was a "resurrected" Gul'dan. We could have gotten the same result out of a questchain or even a cutscene: They think they're summoning this fabled Iron Horde through the Dark Portal, but Gul'dan comes out and kills them both. There, WoD skipped.

No other expansion can be replaced that easily.

I agree entirely.

Instead of WoD, I would've done something different entirely, and made Rakeesh the villain in Gul'dan's place.
Velen's son comes to Azeroth, helps us "prepare" against the Burning Legion by saying "We need to free Illidan!", but instead Illidan's body is stolen and Rekeesh acts all surprised. Oh no!

Rakeesh ends up being bad and gives the Burning Legion a direct entrance to Azeroth through the Tomb of Sargeras.

Boom. No Gul'dan, no WoD. That's how I would've had Legion start, anyway.
Not sure what I'd do for an expansion to fill WoD's place, though..

Rakeesh seems like he could've been such a good character if he'd been fleshed out (especially since Velen's character is being built), but he was kind of wasted.

We learned a lot about the origins of Azeroth in Pandaria, and now with Chronicles, they've made Pandaria the center of a lot of what happened before the War of the Ancients. And sure Wrathion and Anduin haven't done a lot since then, but both got a lot of development during MoP, as did Varian, Vol'jin and the Zandalari.

Hell, Lei Shen has become one of the most popular villains, and he was just there for a mid-expansion tier.

They did a lot of things right with MoP, and I think a lot of it comes from having more creative freedom because of how different and fresh the theme was. Draenor could have also been an empty canvas, and they did create some interesting stuff (the Breakers vs Primals lore, the Arakkoa culture, the origins of Ner'zhul...), but they focused on the least interesting elements: the Warlords and the Burning Legion.

Well yeah. I agree, we didn't even get Farahlon.. Or Ogre continent.

Tbh WoD could have had 2 more tiers with the amount of missing content...
