Suggestions for another MMO to tryout?

Guild died...in a rut with WoW. Happens every expansion (besides MoP for some reason)...looking for something to try out. Want to get that old "exploring" something new and exciting feel. Tried to start a new wow toon but cata zones and same old dungeon q's are meh.

Any one have any suggestions? The following i have played and dont count as something new:

    (1) SWTOR <--best leveling experience ever.
    (2) Star Trek Online (horrible ground combat, space battles were interesting, so was the story but i installed it last night and WAYYY to much changed)
    (3) Neverwinter (did that when it came out)
    (4) D&D online
    (5) Rift (this one was horrible)
    (6) FF14 or whatever it is called. Bought the CE, horrible game...can't get past the "cutest" of the races.

ESO is honestly the only other MMO besides Guild Wars 1 (and WoW) I have ever enjoyed.

Guild Wars 2. A new xpac has recently been released. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Seconded. It's a different vibe than WoW, and is hampered by not being truly open world, but there's absurd amounts of stuff to do here if you wish.

If you're looking for a change, it's definitely a good time to try Guild Wars 2, I agree. The game is largely based around the idea of exploration and simply wandering the world as you level, with only your personal story quests being linearly driven. I'd suggest looking into it.

Definitely a different vibe to WoW, as said above, especially at max level, and if you couldn't get past the "look" of FF14, you might not like some of the cosmetic options you can see people running around with in GW2.

    Tried Elder Scrolls Online?

Can't recommend that game enough, completely different to most MMO's on the market which is, of itself, commendable.

You can explore to your hearts content too since it has level scaling.

I like Planetside2 and also the Galactic Starfighter space combat in SWtoR (also the story quests). Most other MMOs feel too similar to Wow, just with less friends there.

I recommend Guild Wars 2 for the first month or two. Endgame isn't as strong as WoW's, but the jumping puzzles will entertain you.

EVE is a very different kind of MMO you might want to try. They did the game time for game money thing first (far as I know) and they give their players a lot of freedom. As in you can sell things on ebay, take down corporations (their version of guilds), put bounties on other players, run casinos, most anything you want. Combat is very different, super heavy economic focus, no levels but skills you learn in real time. My biggest complaint and the one thing that keeps me from actively playing it is forced PvP at all times. There's no flagging for it, you can be attacked at any time. Now some areas are safer than others, but you can be killed at any time by anyone.

I second EVE Online. If you get past the first "what the fuck to do?" part you will be hooked.
Only problem is that you can't really play it as lone wolf all the time.

PLEASE SAY THEY FIXED IT THEN?

Because Heart of Thorns was just shit, destroyed all my ideas of Guild Wars 2. If you don't like grinding, don't do HoT.
FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

The Secret World is now revamped and it's definitely neither cute nor like WoW. I for one could never get into EVE, you really need to like space.

what did you want fixed specifically? I haven't spent a ton of time in PoF, just ran around and tried to open the map a bit. There's a lot less vertical in the new zones than HoT, everything is a bit more conventional in a sense (I'd say less imaginative, but that'd be pessimistic), but the mounts and how they're incorporated are pretty great so far.

Definitely GW2. If you come into it with a different mindset than WoW, you'll have a blast. It's really quite good. Especially if you make goals or just go to a zone and let the events carry you around it.

    Great game.

I think they made exp gains much easier. But if you play GW2 like other games (gimme everything right away!) then you're not going to like it. If you just play the game and let stuff happen (mastery exp, crafting mats, etc) you'll enjoy it much more.

Guild Wars 2 - if you want a light-weight, easy access fantasy MMO similar to WoW
EVE Online - if you want real, old school, forced grouping MMO

EVE is fantastic - but it's very hardcore.

If you are fan of Tolkien and more specifically Lord of the rings I'd recommend Lord of the rings online for the setting and immersion alone.

However that game is aging considerably given that it came out in 2007 and while it have received some facelifts it hasn't really aged as well as say World of Warcraft and also the client still runs on 32 bit and the game itself does suffer from memory leaks and rather poor optimization, for instance it still only runs on one core so even with a beefy cpu it really won't matter as it won't utilize more than one core. This leads to frame rate drops in major cities like Bree or Minas Tirith.

But if you can look past the at times dodgy performance I do think it is a great game with a amazing setting and a quite considerable RP community if thats a thing you are into.

Ah, a bit of everything. HoT is what made me laugh at people complaining about navigating a zone. Though, mounts now? Yup, been away for a long time.

I am most likely one of the last that you would expect wanting everything right away. I am a completionist after all. Just HoT went quite off-course than what GW2 was used to.

    Guild Wars 2

BUT only if you go into with your eyes open.

GW2 is made for three kinds of player (whereas WoW is made for dozens of kinds):

    1) Super-casual players who just want an MMO to muck around in that's cool and different and has tons of stuff to do and places to go (it has far less than WoW, but it has a LOT). This is probably how you should approach it. You will have fun for at least 1-4 months I'd say. Maybe indefinitely if you are truly casual.

    2) People uncharitably called "Nolifers". I.e. people who play 5+ (often more) hours a day. The game is perfectly suited for them, because it's basically a series of gigantic near-endless grinds pursuing very distant goals that can be achieved incrementally.

    3) Whales. The grindy nature of the game seems fairly strongly oriented towards getting you to buy both cosmetic and QoL features from the cash shop (as well as turning gems - i.e. RL money - into gold). If you have a lot of cash to splash, GW2 is kind of a dreamy game. You will have insane QoL, you will look like a prince/princess, and if you turn some gems into gold, long grinds will suddenly melt into very short and rather pleasurable ones.

If you are anything else, like if you are a semi-serious player, but who only plays 2-3 hours/night, and doesn't want to spend RL money much, I suspect the game will seem fun at first, but frustrate you within a month or three.

If you can't fit into any of those groups, next up is ESO. Cheap, tons of content, gameplay isn't up to WoW standards (or GW2's imo), but it's better than 90% of F2P and B2P MMOs.

This. And like others have already said, GW2 is also a nice change of pace.

Is there a free trial for ESO?
