No. In games like Overwatch, it's just cosmetic shit you can get for free just for playing. Since I don't suffer from poor impulse control I just pick up the cosmetic shit as it comes.

No, as long as it doesn't affect the gameplay at all. If it does then Yeah I will not buy the game ever IE Battlefront 2

If the things you can get are just cosmetic (otherwise obtainable or not), no, it's definitely not a deal-breaker for me.
Once they start giving you a gameplay advantage, it's where I am getting annoyed by it and might avoid the game.

Gamble Clicks are just yet another reason I've pretty much given up on buying anything 'Triple A' on release, I'm quite happy to wait a year or two for a cheap GOTY version in a sale

For me it's simple if it's only and purely cosmetic i dont care about the loot boxes, but the second it affects actual gameplay then for me it's blacklisted.

I refuse to buy any games with lootboxes in them, cosmetic only or not. Charging me full price for a game, then trying to squeeze even more money from customers through what effectively amounts to gambling is just shameless. I refuse to support any company that would resort to such methods.

I really don't like the idea of "If the lootbox offers cosmetic stuff, I don't care".

Usually games with systems like those make the skins that you get from the LB look fucking cool, while the normal gear is just "meh". Yes, it matters, folks. It may not affect you in a gameplay level, but it affects the game just as much as it would affect if said items had stats or stuff like that.

OT: Yes. I don't buy games with lootboxes. Overwatch can rot in hell. Same with Shadow of War, Battlefront 2, etc.

Depends. If it’s like in Shadow of War, then yes. I pirated it because of it, which was a good thing becuase it turns out it’s a bad game.

Only at 1-3e discount and only if I happen to be bored and drunk and the premise is at least vaguely interesting.

I find it fundamentally reprehensible out of the F2P schemery where it belongs.

I voted No, but I still hate them.

Shadows of War was fun, until all my Legendaries and some of my Epics started to gain "Iron Will" and now I have a bunch of gibbering idiots.

    "Brightlord, darklord... Darklord, Brightlord!"

"The Pain, I cannot feel the pain..."

I really want this trend to die and especially stay out of my single player games.

I don't mind cosmetic loot crates such as the ones in Overwatch but when you start putting power in them or making it easier to get to games endings with them then that's where I draw the line.

However in MMORPGS hell no. If you want to put a mount or costume on the store then do it. Bad enough Rift has Lock Boxes that give you a CHANCE at a mount.
I'm pretty much on board with this. If there's only cosmetic crap, then whatever. However, I will also say that there should be an option to outright buy the cosmetic things you want as well. Overwatch's box system is a good example of this. The system would be perfect if people could just slap down $5 or $10 for the specific skin they wanted. No trading of skins once purchased.

Also, anything with a subscription has no business having any kind of paid loot boxes. Fuck that every day and twice on sunday. There's no way to avoid a conflict of interests there. If you pay the sub, you should be getting access to everything except charity items. And when I say access, I mean access, NOT free crap just for subbing. You still gotta put in the work, IMO.

    In short, yes.

I certainly don't like player power that is acquired through real cash and I also dislike cosmetic real money purchases, simply because looking good is a huge part of many online games and should come primarily from playing the game.

On top of that I oppose gambling. Slightly old fashioned view perhaps, but I believe there should be limits on the extent to which companies are permitted to exploit human psychology for financial gain. Some RNG has always been part of MMOs, but I draw the line at loot crates and similar features.

Moment any sub game I play starts introducing loot box systems I'm out. However some non sub MMOs do it already.

Guild Wars 2 kind of does it in a way. Black Lion chests usually contain QoL fluff but have a tiny chance to drop permanent style kits which are worth loads and scraps for some decent looking weapons. And Dye Kits which roll a random dye. Worst part is out of 25 colours usually only 6 are rare. I remember with one of the dye kits I went through a shit ton before getting Shadow Abyss. Of course while it's still cosmetic it's still quite reliant on RNG to get the rare dyes.

Rift's loot boxes though while cosmetic are a disgrace. PvE currency, garbage planar fragments and only a CHANCE at the mount the loot box is advertising.

I know I sound a bit hypocritical because I said yes to cosmetic boxes in Overwatch but no in MMORPGs but I just don't want to pay for a chance at something like that in a game like WoW. Either put the mount on the store or make it obtainable in game. Same with pets and transmog.

I think the line blurs a bit on F2P games that have a sub option. RIFT is fairly unique in that you get access to pretty much the entire game without a sub, right? I haven't checked it in a Looooooooong time, so I could be wrong.

But yeah, anything that has direct power upgrades shouldn't be in loot boxes. Star Trek online is holy crap the worst game ever for that kind of thing. Ships which are objectively, dominatingly better than anything you can get through normal play.

    True I guess.

I think GW2 may have done away with the rare kits in the chest but it's been a while since I bought one.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Per...ylist_Contract

There it is. And it does sell for a lot according to a friend of mine. Just weird that cosmetics like that are locked behind RNG or deep pockets. 2.9k Gold is a lot in that game. As for the contract turns out I was thinking of the kits that can be bought directly for gems.

Dye kits still irritate me though because of personal experience. Went through a shit ton before I got Shadow Abyss.

You are right about Rift it is fully F2P but the loot box system is utter garbage. £4 or so for a mediocre box that only has a chance at the mount and the rest of the contents other are mostly garbage. I mean the PvE currency helps a bit but with how much you need to upgrade gear it's nothing amazing.

I agree too. I mean I do play games for enjoyment but the loot crate system in a select few is getting a bit over the line.

Part of why I don't want Battlefront 2 is the loot crates admittedly but the most part is that it just felt boring for me when I played the Beta.

No, I don't support greedy motherfuckers. Every time you buy one of these games you help transform videogames into videomotherfuckinglottery.

The problem is that when things are called "Optional", but end up screwing up and otherwise good game. BF2 is a perfect example. Loot boxes which contain items that boost player power, which in turn lets the boosted player rack up more points in-game, which leads to even MORE power. It's stupid. All they had to do was make it work like Overwatch's loot boxes. But noooo.....they had to throw in power boosts because they know stupid people will pay for it.

I was looking at buying an Xbox One AND that game in order to play with a friend. But after seeing the business model: Nope and Nope.

People who buy these "good" games without thinking about the ramifications of what "optional" actually effects are the reasons why companies keep doing this kind of crap.

Cosmetics I am fine with, but gameplay altering pay2win casino games for children is revolting
