Unfortunately for people that aren't fans of Elves, Legion was an expansion primarily about demons/elves who became like demons, and secondarily about Elves.
In addition, for there to be any payoff to the myriad of plots that existed in Legion aside from the Legion being defeated, it makes sense to introduce not one but two new elf-based races to the plot. One built from the Alleria plot point, and one from the Suramar plot point. To have any of the 7.3 threads go nowhere when they look like they're going somewhere is more egregious than adding Elves to a game full of Elves. Blizzard isn't selling to the people who specifically dislike Elves, they're selling to the general WoW playerbase, who by and large like Elves.
I'm thinking about that. I kind of want a global flood myself. If it *is* about Naga, maybe Azshara used some maguffin to raise Nazjatar from the sea and flood the surface at the same time. Hopefully a fair number of updated zones are unaffected by specifically that and more affected by the passage of time, though.
Here we kinda get to the crux of the elf issue, and something I'd actually like to see polled on.
Would more elves really mean more diversity at this point? I know in my case Nightborne wouldn't move my needle an inch. Really, I think the only thing moving people's needle is High Elves (Void Elves).
So I'd love to see people respond to what elf they are now, and if they'd change to one of these new elves.
My guess is the new elves are barely touched, just 1:1 trade BElves for HElves, or worse, actively cannibalize the non-elves and make the elf majority even larger.

With how much I see people ranting in various guilds, trade chat, forums, and such... I feel like Nightborne would actually cause more diversity. But I could be wrong.
Just see a lot of... Passionate people... On the subject... >_>
The irony here is that for the most part I don't even like anime. But regardless of that fact, if I did, I do not see how it'd be relevant.
But a MEMEster such as yourself with no internal resources kind of has to latch on to whatever they can get once their logical fallacies fail.
