Nvidia GTX 1070 ti. What was Nvidia thinking when making this card?

So the GTX 1070i cards is due here in Denmark in 20 days and WTF was Nvidia thinking when they made this card?

They are slower then the GTX 1080 and if rumors are trrue they will be locked and can therefore not be OC'ed to 1080 lvl, but they cost the same and even some of them cost more then the 1080. So what is the point in making a card that cost the same and even more then a faster card?

Some leaks has even shown that it is not much faster then 10% of the normal 1070.

So have i missed something on this release or does Nvidia just want milk the 10 series a little more for people's money?

Leaks I've seen shows the 1070ti only slight slower than 1080. The OC thing is probably bullshit. It's most likely related to being locked to a certain clock for all manifacturers, not for the consumer. It's exactly to not allow say Gigabyte to sell a Aeorus liquid cooled OC'ed card that has higher clock rate than a 1080 at similar price. But that will not stop any user to OC their 1070ti past that. MSI afterburner was already updated for 1070 OC profiles anyway. All the website who ran with this story used the same leaked source.

But still. If you want the good cards, that might be able to OC, you still have to pay more then what a 1080 cost and what is the point of that?. The 1080 card will OC higher then the 1070 ti

Its nothing but a 1080 that didn't meet full specifications in the manufacturing process.

Probably. The 1070 and 1080 run the same chip, so the 1070ti is most likely the 'weak' 1080s that they're rebranding to still sell. Just the same, the 1080ti is an improved Titan X, effectively, rather than a souped up 1080.

Vega56 is $470 with a mediocre stock blower cooler. 1070Ti is expected to cost ~$430 stock. Add $10/20 for custom cooling/vrm models and it will destroy AMD in this range.

Nvidia really doesn't have to try, Radeon Vega 56 is a hot mess. Availability, pricing and a lack aftermarket cooling this long after release just sucks. Nvidia really should of just dropped the prices of the 1080 and 1070, but that's not how this works i guess.

Well it's Denmark problem then. In my case custom cooler 1070Ti costs same as stock Vega 56.

    Not a big brainer here.

To keep itself in users' mindshare, Ngreedia's products are overpriced garbage.

3.5 GB. That's all you need to know, even though there's a lot more to know if you watch AdoredTV's videos.

You've just been on an uneducated anti-everything tear.

... if you want top performance, especially at higher resolutions and framerates, you buy nVidia.

AMD doesn't even have products that compete with the 1080Ti or aftermarket 1080s, and the 1070Ti is set to bury the Vega56 pretty handily. Same price, better performance, less power.

Maybe if you were actually educated on any of these topics, you wouldn't be so confused.

Exactly, this seems like a 1070 refresh almost. Obviously they have too many good chips coming out, have been selling these cards for too long. Given the price point it is probably better viewed as a replacement product for the 1070 rather than shoehorning in another segment which does indeed make precious little sense.

AFAIK the 1080 is tapped out, no more stuff can be unlocked so here we are, no manufacturer overclocking. I was surprised to find the 1080 is actually more efficient per frame than the 1070, I wonder if that is still going to be true for the 1070ti.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Case in point, I guess you don't keep up with benchmarks much do you? AMD is slowly catching up or beating Nvidia on new games every other day. The 64 smokes the TI in Forza. SMOKES. Anything above 1080p the AMD products catch up and start beating NGreedia's hackjob memory which is probably once against a mix of DDR3 and GDDR5. Go pay the price of a 1080 for a weaker 1080 labelled as TI and enjoy wasting your money.

Oh yeah? So a company flat out lying to you about the components of your GPU doesn't bother you? Using part of the memory that's 10x slower than GDDR5 is fine with you? What if it was 3GB? what if it was 2? Where would the fucking line be drawn for you apologists?

"They feed me shit but at least it's not diarrhea". That fucking card can't even do 1080p 60FPS with medium and high settings in Witcher 3, and forget about Hairworks and NVidia's other gimmick settings, you'll be running at 30s and 40s all day long.
