He almost succeeded doing that though. The spell he was channeling caused critical permanent damage even after being interrupted.

The braindead thing is melting Icecrown.

    So much for defending Azeroth.

    Sorry, but you are wrong?

Illidan Stormrage: At Dalaran, I attempted to use the Eye of Sargeras to melt away the polar icecaps surrounding the Icecrown Glacier. If the spell had succeeded, the Lich King would have been vanquished forever.

You are both essentially correct. He was using the Eye of Sargeras to melt the ice caps around Icecrown pointedly to destroy the Frozen Throne and the Lich King - his goal wasn't destroying the land of Icecrown or even melting it, his goal was the destruction of the Lich King and the melting of the ice was more or less a side-effect of the Eye working on the Frozen Throne. The Eye and its powers were causing such devastation to Azeroth that Malfurion could hear nature crying out from halfway across the world in Kalimdor, which is why he moved to stop Illidan before the collateral damage to the world was too severe.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see." ― Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

I think on this note, there was a canon story where Maiev tried to live an ordinary life after "killing" Illidan and was banished for homicidal tendencies.

Malfurion is just embarresed that he was wrong about his brother, and is jealous he is not the cool badass hero.

He probably goes down with the Legion since he'll be out of place in the next expansion

Nah probably have to pull a Bolvar and take the reins to prevent mass genocide.

Sadly no. He was blueballed for so long that his balls at some point imploded and are lost forver. He will never be able to live a normal life as a man with intact balls.
