Blizzard is not going to open with anything other than straight vanilla. Why? Because i'd bet good bottom dollar that half the reason they're doing this is to convert a reasonable chunk of those playing on private servers to actual subscribers. It's a good model too, the Wow token has by all counts devastated the gold farming business and converted a a good portion of it to company revenue.
Wow Classic is the trojan horse to conquer the private servers and reap some profit on the side. But to do so it absolutely, without fail MUST appeal to those playing on those private servers. Those people, who in many cases have been playing the same classic for years, are not remotely interested in Classic+. They are dedicated and a decent amount of them makeup the "We want ACTUAL vanilla" crowd. If they don't cater to them at least to start with they lose them, possibly forever, and the private server problem continues, perhaps it becomes even worse and it sparks a resurgence after the negative publicity. Therefore they will start with what vanilla was at an absolute baseline. From then on it will be up to the community they create to decide its course.
Maybe the majority on the classic server will start to embrace the idea of class balances a few months on? Maybe they even want some newer content a year or two later? Maybe it does just burrow into that legacy only niche? The sky is the limit! But anyone arguing that they need all the changes to the winning formula day one instead of when its been sampled and evaluated are really burying their heads in the sand.
Let's make on thing clear here, people who haven't or can't remember how vanilla was are going to cry if they release new content after a year. Anyone who seriously claim they'll cleared Naxx etc a few months in are out of their fucking mind.
People are going to get A huge wake-up call if they release servers as they were in vanila.

Yeah he's comparisons were bad but in a sence just. Raids are way more forgiving in retail.
This is comical. The classic bois have been saying for years “all we want is classic as it was”. Now that Blizz is doing that, they’re all saying “well we want new content and revamped systems”. Either you want classic or you don’t.

A sort of alternate path using Vanilla mechanics, a level 60 cap, and putting in unused ideas like the Outland zone/dungeon/raid (back when Outland consisted entirely of what became Hellfire Peninsula, based off pre-BC representations of the shattered, dead remains of the orcish homeworld), the Emerald Dream zone/raid, the Caverns of Time (Black Morass can be found in the 1.12 map files with a long section including running from the CoT to a bridge leading to a winding spire, which then leads to the Black Morass proper, that was removed for the BC version), that kinda thing, would be cool, but it should be done as an alternative offering to the pure-Classic servers. Call it Classic Expansions and give them their own servers, separate from the Classic servers.
Be seeing you guys on Bloodsail Buccaneers NA!

What if the Dark Portal reopened and we could go to Outland and find out what happened over there? Gain some new allies, maybe fight Magtheridon and some other big names?
Oh and after that, we could deal with the Lich King too! And what's Deathwing up to these days?
Agree, but getting people with specific tallentbuilds together, even meaning people will only be there for support and not contribute to damage like it was. That's going to be even harder then it used to be. People nowadays all ready cry if their hybrid can't do enough damage, let alone do nearly nothing in vanilla.now That's going to be the hardest to get A group build-up for 40man raids. Conclusion is that clearing a raid on classic (not tweeked) will be way harder then retail. If you Want to compare mechanics I would say look at Naxx vanilla vs retail. Getting 8 tanks, 2hansfulls of dps and some hybrid supporters will be a disaster.
Right, but that challenge isn’t actually fun. I mean, maybe it’s fun for SOME people, but to me, needing 8 geared tanks for one fight in Naxx is not fun, it’s just irritating. Farming basilisks and vultures for hours on end in Blasted Lands is not fun. MCing a mob in LBRS to give 40 people a FR buff after every wipe isn’t fun.
