Naturally I got assisted + took a subsidized loan which I split for damn forever, but I still had to pay rent for our apartment and I could not go far because my mother was already of quite advanced age and alone.

Basically, I had to work, because otherwise we'd have no money for basic shit.

But the point is - if I frikkin' made it, anyone can, yet you see people in droves not lifting a finger to pull themselves out of dirt and expecting people to come over and clean their snotty noses and spoonfeed them. If one is content with doing shit menial labor and not doing two shits about it, then it's their problem and not of evil governments or "capitalism" or shit like that.

    Wanna trade citizenships?
I'd be happy to become a US citizen and you can take my Australian citizenship.
Come see what it's like to live in a progressive socialist country. :P

People are mean and don't like me. REBEL! By killing people and blowing shit up. That'll make them like us.

Look at the price of milk, the price of fast food, the price of clothes etc. *Sudden old man out of no where* "BACK IN MY DAY A HOTDOG COST A NICKLE!"

If increasing the amount of money buyers have, why in the name of all that is holy would they raise the price of things just for shits?

Also local area for me, "cheap" housing is 700 a month minimum. 5 years ago it was $600. Again minimum wage has slowly gone up in the state of michigan.

Another simple way of looking at it is this. If people have more money to spend, they can afford to be charged more. Simple supply and demand. Understand?
Hotdawgs don't cost a nickle because of inflation which happens regardless of a minimum wage increases or not.

I want a peer reviewed study not the way you feel because it means nothing to me.

The thing is, you want at least some sort of weight to your diploma. Yes, I could not study in University, that would be impossible, so instead I selected a college which is not OMG amazing, but is considered decent for what I wanted, was pretty close by and was down to earth enough for me.

The idea was that getting some diploma from a total shit 3rd rate place would not be terribly helpful, although I must say, it's not that important after all as long as you have genuine skill, this is a block on HR level though, who usually are stuffed by a bunch of monkeys looking for buzzwords in your CV.

In retrospect I could have made it more optimal for sure, but I was like 20 years old and had no idea about these things for shit.

I deleted the post because it is insensitive and bad taste but you were really fast :P... Basically looking at the data on the first page from that one response about what poor people actually have access to. Capitalism has made even the lowest in society way better off.

You cant do a simple transition into a metric system and you want something so complicated as socialism in your country??? Good luck.

Community college degrees do have weight though same with apprenticeship because experience out ways > diplomas. Also your point about peopling not doing anything to better there situation hold weight but at the end of the day someone has to work though jobs that's the problem in the end.

Well I'm really impressed by the way you rose above your circumstances and became perpetually angry and judgemental, and seem to blame literally everyone else you've ever met for everything.

There's a Christmas lesson for us all: if you are born into poverty, you too can become a thoroughly miserable intolerant person. I feel genuinely sad for your kids, what a horrible Father you must be.

Most of that is because technology gets cheaper as time goes on and they make up for differences in other ways. Compare a $4000 television to a $1000 one now, it's even more massive than the past.

This. Most Americans have it made. There are millions who would gladly trade places with us. I mean, there are millions trying to get here already. :P

Yes, I will teach my kids to work and succeed, instead of whining and expecting riches to fall from sky, while sufficiently cover my family in case I flip out myself when I'm 50, because shit happens and I won't want my children to experience what real shit life is. I will be a horrible dad.

What's wrong with living in a progressive socialist country? Seriously curious, not looking for sarcasm though.

What I'm more curious about is why Americans are accepting working nearly 25% more hours than the average European, life is short why waste to much of it working?

I would argue it's billions. People look at the United States and Western Europe as the pinnacle of success. Mostly because they are. Europe is just doing a much better job of caring for all their citizens. The U.S. is still learning. But even our homeless are in better shape than I would say at least half the world. Literally. Oh, Western Europe doesn't have homeless, in case you were wondering (not you Ghost, but others).

The United States will continue to trail far behind Europeans in almost every developed category until the world plateaus. There are even some futurists that see the U.S. being the last nation to eschew religion - and that's ALL countries, not just the developed.

I hope I'm not sounding like I'm nation bashing here (so hard to see the line between criticism and bashing sometimes) - I live in the United States, and for the most part love this country - just not so much right now, lol.

Americans won't revolt until the economy collapses (2008 style!). With Trump and co. removing Wall St. regulations and consumer protections, we'll be there sooner than you know it.

    Some of them are.

The 51 Senators who just voted to fuck poor people and national finances are pretty darn revolting, for instance.
