Extremely lacking defensive (singular), since using them cuts damage output to near nil for the duration.
Of course you're going to lose dps on bitch duty. That's why its bitch duty. We lose just as much as anyone else, assuming they play properly.
If by insane DPS you mean middle of the pack, sure.

Problem is, once that happens, the hunter is screwed because thats LITERALLY all of our defense. Pooch = screwed.
Also, in WoD, Mages are getting Evanesce, which does everything Deterrence does but better and on a 45s cooldown. Rogues still have Elusiveness on top of Cloak (glyph for 40% physical DR on top of 90% magical DR and spell immunity for 3/5 the duration). Do you have any idea what you're even talking about?

I hate the job until I see another job that hunters can't do and someone is royally fucking it up. Then I'm happy that its usually my job.

Hunters are indeed the specialists of wow raids but not because they do less dps than other classes, but because they can handle a lot of mechanics a lot better than other classes.
I find hard to find a "bitch duty" other than belts that can't be done by other classes even better. For example on gluth I used to kite zombies with my DK, and was easy peasy on any of the 3 specs. DKs were supreme kitters in cata, waaaaaay better than hunters. Kitting the flowers on the council of Tot4W as a hunter was a nightmare, the same as kiting magmaw parasites. In wod frost mages were the kings of control and slow... until the belt I have not seen any duty than can't be done as effectively with other classes. Unless you are talking of doing something that doesn't require you to completely stop dps then yes, hunter may be better (kicking in tortos or even garrosh engineers where you can leave the pet on the boss and keep dpsing/cleaving.)

Hunter utility has been so hyped over the last 2 expansions that people wouldn't even try with other classes... while many of them can be as effective as hunters, if not more.

I love being the guy to handle the special mechanics. I am the guild leader and primary raid leader for my guild and I always assign myself and my other hunters to special tasks. I love the flexibility our class has. I mean I am still someone who min maxes for the most DPS I can and don't get me wrong, I still love going full bore on garrosh or siegecrafter but I love that I can provide a bigger contribution to the raid other than DPS. I really enjoy our utility in terms of kiting, traps, misdirect, and other things. For some it might be overwhelming on some fights but for me thats what makes the game interesting and fun.

All of those mechanics you say other class's do better with - MM hunter in cata says hi =D none of those mechanics were horrible to deal with as a mm hunter at the time since with the right talent specing we had unlimited slows and could AoE forever with machine gun type multishots. But i do see your point were other class's should be able to do those same mechanics as the hunter. It's more personal skill over class design really.

The only reason rogues aren't also selected to do such things is because they're a melee class. Otherwise, I'd say they're much better suited for soaking jobs.

Guild put me on engineers last night on H. Garrosh. I don't mind doing bitch jobs, but only when it makes sense for us. I wasn't happy. =/

I've always played hunter and I've always done the shit jobs indeed... Whether in 10 or 25. (while Mages for example are never disturbed! ups sorry). "Oh, look, we have a hunter, let us give him everything we don't want to do, only because hunters have been doing this for years". By tradition. It's quite annoying when no one in the raid reconsiders anything (for example eng on garrosh), because we play "hunter". And I feel like in people's head there's nothnig else in hunter than kiting, soaking and killing the adds in every single fight (agreed, easy switching). Or at least, they have no idea about the other classes that can do the same job (and sometimes even better).

I must admit that there's the good and the bad part. Generally I'm really proud to be able to do this kind of things, to help my group, and help killing the boss, because I play "the" class.
But on the other hand when it's clear that other classes can also do the exactly same thing without being disturbed at all (including no dps loss) and they don't do it, I'm annoyed... I sometimes cry a bit (otherwise it wouldn't have been fun), but I know about these "disadvantages" and sometimes clichés and in the end I still love hunter and I can deal with it

(I'm just a bit sad that I know nothing about Siegecrafter but the belt-part of the fight. I would however have loved to practice some survivability)

I love it: I like to work on damage metters, but "special mechanics" is so much more fun. Both when playing my hunter or my resto druid I've always volunteered for those tasks: not it makes you look good in eyes of your guildies (because eventually they know that they can count on you for these things), but you also become a better player since you're paying attention to more than just your damage.

I'm glad I've gotten my GM to finally start regularly sending our Mage to do Engineers on Garrosh, since he's frost and lacks meaningful AoE/cleave.. Blink over, Blazing Speed back, OP.

I put the harder jobs on myself because it relieves pressure on my raid. I just so happen to play a hunter and am good at the harder mechanics.

not too bad doing eng if you have someone helping you, then you can keep pet on garrosh and just do regular rotation but with eng as target.

That's what i did without the person helping me. Just kept my pet on garry while killing the eng. Every so often it's nice just to mindlessly dps lol.

Like on Siegecrafter lol I only see the belt - I think through the whole xpac i'v been able to just dps him 1 time and i had to pay our rogues to be able to do it lol.

I have been doing it for so long now it seems almost the norm for me....but I remember a time when it did slightly annoy me.
