Why would anyone pay anything for profession products anymore? Besides upgrades, anyone can craft anything without professions in garrisons and it doesnt take much effort, just time and by the time cards etc come in AH, you would have crafted your own for 1% of the AH prices that have no real basis on costs. For an example, even 50 000 from anything that can be crafted has no reason other than that the seller just wants to have 10000% profit margin. If there is any real competition, the craft items are not worthwhile because competition will lower the prices into the material costs.
Except when high level crafting mats are gated via a time delay to craft them.
Except when you HAVE to have the profession to upgrade the item from its base item level. Sure go ahead and craft a trinket thats ilvl 640 on your character that doesnt have inscription. Have fun watching it sit there and not upgrade to 655 or 665.
I made about 200k on a very small server from inscription in the first two days of launch, invested about 100k, got 300k back, however it pretty much stopped then, when everyone got the recipes, glyph prices dropped to roughly the crafting price and the demand is pretty much non existent anymore considering this is a small server. Am just selling herbs now, they sell within seconds from posting them.
While this holds true for basic crafting ingredients, the higher level CDs are not even close. Professions give you a CD that delivers 4-10x more each day. If you want to craft "raid ready" items, you'll need the profession.
OP: I think that anyone cranking out epics right now is going to make a killing off of people trying to bump their ilvl for heroics or to get some place holder pieces. Within two weeks of live raiding, this is sure to change. Decks are OP money makers, as always, and are more accessible than ever. This may seem like a condradiction but two factors help: 1) only a small percentage of players have more than a vague concept of what each garrison building actually does at 1/2/3 & 2) the RNG factor of decks means that on any given day, a different card can swing up in price by an astounding amount.
As always, YMMV.
Everyone can make weapons and armor, only upgrade supply is not equal to demand. There is absolutely no reason to buy weapons or armor. Everyone could have weapon and armor from own garrison by now.
