Best way - ilvl of followers

I am wondering what would be better to upgrade on followers regarding ilvl.

For example, would it be better to have 3 followers ilvl 615 or 1 follower 645?

3 with 615. With this team you will start gradually getting more and more gear from missions and gear up to 645, with one high ilvl follower you won't be able to complete a single one.
