Low healing on Blackhand normal, looking for some insight

    Hi guys,

Healing is my OS but I've read up quite a lot recently and have been healing since wotlk, where I was a really good healer. Most raids I heal as an OS these days I do okay but on a Blackhand pug it got as far as people wanting me kicked from the raid saying I was "bad". The fight has a lot of movement which I assume impacted my healing a lot but I'd like to know if there's anything that shows in the logs that I could improve to drastically improve my healing. Comparing the fight on AskMrRobot my healing did indeed seem low but I chuck it up to phase 3 being a mess and us wiping, where I feel like most of my healing as a pala would come from. I'm using gear tailored to my ret spec as well so I guess that could be a factor too.

Any insight and personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Posted in the fix my heals thread instead

    Hi there.

So I'm no expert but after looking at your armory, I figure you are going for the crit build. That is totally viable and a good way to go. I would possibly suggest going mastery for this fight because of all the movement. Then again, tank healing is critical in this fight.

In regards to your talents, I would probably go with Holy Avenger if you are crit.

Here is a link from our heroic kill last night. https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...Y#type=healing

Flamefur is a pretty damn good holy pally and parses VERY well. He stacks mastery. Hopefully this can help you out a bit. - http://us.battle.net/wow/en/characte...mefur/advanced

Granted he outgears you by a fair bit, but at least you can get a guage of where his heals are coming from with the mastery build. Remember though, that mastery is more of an aoe raid heal spec, whereas crit is more of a single target tank heal. His numbers may be bigger because of all the AoE healing he is doing.

Feel free to sift through all of our logs to check what he's doing on a per fight basis. https://www.warcraftlogs.com/guilds/1541/

Hope this helps and have a good day!

Dont take holy avenger imo. SW is just too strong. Im in class atm so ill look at your logs when I get home and give you a more in depth exp.

4 healers is quite a bit for a 15 man, but that's only part of it. Your raw HPS will be lower when healing on the tanks rather than raid for as much as you do. With that many healers (and a disc priest especially) really it shouldn't be an issue to primarily raid heal and let BoF do the majority. For comparison my guild ran 3 healers in 17 man, but we're a little more geared than your pug group.

Also when you are healing tanks that much, you should be using FoL more. You were still 100k mana at the end. Aim to be OOM at the end of the fight. If you aren't then you aren't doing all you can.

And yes also take SW until 4pc. Then it's preference between SW and DP

i find the mastery build linked by girthmonster to be interesting, your overhealing on holy prism is very high, try and see if you can maybe wait a bit longer to use it to keep it's overheal down, also i think you could holy shock even more. Thats all i can really see at a glance.

Came here looking for a "Seal of Insight" joke based on the title.

    Didn't find said joke.

I wouldn't go mastery build since it aint as viable as Crit are.
and for that Hpala flamefur, he is not that good. im doing 50-53k ish hps when he is down. sadly i can't provide any logs since the directory fails every single time i start logging. still dont know why it does that. but stick with the Crit build and remember to use your wings and holy prism very wise its all about getting the heals in at the right time.

ohh and btw im only 672 ilvl

I wouldn't listen to most of this. Crit is always going to be the best secondary stat for Holy Paladins. After that Haste and Mastery are in close competition. It more so depends on what you prefer.

Don't go Holy Avenger. Go Sanctified Wrath without 4pc and Divine Purpose with 4pc. This saves you a ton of mana and allows you to gear a bit more spirit light for more throughput.

You should always be "raid healing" on the Paladin, but it is more so just triage on raid members that need it. All of your heals should be thrown onto raid members except when everyone is topped off. In that case you should be casting Holy Lights on the tank (whoever is currently tanking the boss). You always need to keep a very close eye on the tanks, if they are every dipping it is your primary responsibility to keep them alive through the damage, then switch back to triaging the raid.

I have similar problems with this fight. I normally heal between 40-50khps on average (ilvl 677 w/4p), higher than that on fights like butcher and lower than that on fights like mythic twins and in this case, blackhand. I seem to be averaging 30-32k hps, i've even dipped under 30k on successful attempts. I believe this has a lot to do with my movement and positioning. If someone can go over ideal movement and positioning for this fight it will be helpful. I also waste time trying to heal targets that show up on my UI as being in range but they are LoS on p2 up top - i'm sure however this is easily fixed if i run it with my guild (i've just been pugging blackhand since my guild is 8/10H) where i know who is going up. Would glyphing for beacon of light be advisable on this fight since i can throw it around more easily in p2? I just always seem to be moving in p1 and 2, p3 i have more time to free cast and thats where i shine and pick up some real good hps since it gets very healing intensive.

Paladins are great for this fight due to having BoP, but i feel like i should be doing so much more. The other healers in this group when i will be doing this with my guild are monk, druid, and priest. Revival and tranq can be anywhere from #2-#4 on skada for their healing. I feel like paladins are at a disadvantage when you are put with good raid healers who can keep players topped off.

should i really be speccing into DP instead of SW with 4p? I have played with it outside of raids and it does seem to proc around 50%, but it can go from not proccing 5 times in a row to proccing 5 times in a row.
