Same. I was under this presumption from the beginning, too.

Driving the ships themselves would be dope but I have no idea how that'd even be coded/developed/work tbh.

This expansion is built around Garrisons. No one should really expect a divergence from a focus on their content; they're one of the expansion's primary features.

If you're expecting something "revolutionary" or different, you're just going to continue to get how this expansion was designed and more iterations upon the content it included at launch. That's what Patches have always done.

The big, new features normally come with an expansion.

Agreed. For the "Biggest content patch ever" they're sure as hell offering very little. One new raid, one new timeless isle, one new table, and two new dungeon difficulties that just has the player scaled down or the mobs health and damage scaled up.

    Woo...so exciting...

"Biggest contest patch" is a word game. They mean it's the largest download size.
The plural of anecdote is not "data". It's "Bayesian inference".

"How can we beef up the download so we can claim it's the biggest ever?"

"Let's encode all the images in XML."

    "BRILLIANT!"

Imagine if shipyard missions were some little scenarios where you bring a couple of your followers, maybe with a little dialogue if you bring a certain follower to a certain mission that gives a little backstory or lore, or this follower brings a little change in how things play out, or a new mission is unlocked after completing that with this follower, or if you bring this pair they argue about this and you find out about that, or hey, if you bring this pair a boss attacks and you better come back with some friends to beat it for a good one-time reward. You'd have little titbits of story, atmosphere and characterizations, an element of discovery, achievements for working out the right ones. You might actually talk to other people about what followers they have and what ones worked in each missions and team up to see them all, be social.

Maybe I'm naively throwing out ideas that are too amitious. But goddamn, WoD really could do with some ambition.

It would be reasonable to make the ships part of a personal network of boatpoints, using the vessels in your fleets to travel around the map. Granted, since they scrapped any of the island content (farahlon, the island to the southwest), there's less opportunity. Or, throw in new docks and wharfs near apexis daily areas that your boat takes you to instantly.

The devs have said several times they want to explore more travel options, since they decided against flying. This is one HUGE opportunity they completely missed. Stuff like this would be fun - game breaking, no, but another facet of fun things to do while in game, like poke around your sub traveling from your garrison to Ashran.

It's stuff like that, that are not back breaking features, that the devs seem incapable of coming up with. Instead, we get a glorified spreadsheet/slot machine in the garrisons.
