Activision Blizzard Beats Q2 Expectations, Shares Surge

    http://www.benzinga.com/news/earning...s-shares-surge

despite the drop in WOW subs, it proves WOW is not blizz's only bread and butter. it's rather funny...alot of doomsayers in threads leading up today, seem to think that sub losses are going to teach them a lesson or cause them to lose money. i quarantee ATVI is in no panic, the game is 10+ years old and 5.6 mil is still impressive.

alot of talk on COD, mention of movie, but not WOW game much

    Yes.
But really no reason to make another thread about this. Could have just posted in the existing threads about the call/subs

Well, this thread is useful to talk about some things, notably how corporate profits and WoW aren't a 1:1 link.

1- Blizzard isn't WoW. This means that WoW could go away and Blizzard could be fine.
2- Given that, it's possible that poor WoW sales could drive funding away from WoW- let WoW fall to a "natural low maintenance baseline" while the money is diverted to cheaper games with a hardprofit core (mobile style). That's by no means a given, but it is a risk.
3- If you care mostly about WoW, bad WoW subs and good Blizzard performance is functionally equivalent to bad WoW subs and bad Blizzard performance, or bad WoW subs and great Microsoft performance- if you care about WoW, the subs effect you, and the rest of the corporate umbrella does not.
4- If WoW had more subs, Blizzard would be doing better.
5- WoW subs are relevant to WoW players, because they hint at what Blizzard will do with WoW.

Losing half of your customers in less than a year is very impressive.
    THE HORDE WILL ENDURE
    THE HORDE IS STRONG!

That is just it, they did not lose them. It seems they kept their customers but they just moved to different games within the company. Blizzard isn't just WoW anymore. If you look at that, that is quite an achievement by itself because of how huge it was.

    That's loopy and likely wrong.

    agree with post #3

agree with post #4, i myself am amazed that half the sub base was wiped in 7 months of WOD, i wish it was not so severe, but despite what is coming in tomorrows announcement if the next expac is 10+ months out, severe drops could continue.
