Aww, that's cute. I have a weak spot for WoW plushes. On Etsy I saw someone who made needle felted little birds that looked just like Pepe, came in a bunch of different colors. Not sure if I'm allowed to link here or not though.

My guess would be because "it looks cute" is why it gets some weird hype.

Actually it is quite complex. If you look at the Pepe achievement, you'll see that Pepe demands that you kill most of the bosses up to HFC with him on your head. If you wipe, you have to go back and get him again, so this is not a trivial feat if you had done it when the content was fresh. Despite the difficulty, it is clear that Pepe demands the blood of some of the hardest enemies in the game. He demands your success boss after boss. The burning question is why?

Pepe is clearly bloodthirsty and the reward of completing the achievement gives you a clue as to why: it is an interdimentional whistle. Taking that into account, we can assume that Pepe is not what he seems. He is summoned from another dimension. Is Pepe and Old God? Is Pepe full of tentacles and hatred?

Best not taunt Pepe, as he has encouraged quite a lot of carnage.

Rest assured: what horrors exist in the world from which Pepe hails, we are lucky to be his (her? Its) servant and not its victim!!!

I am so ordering a Pepe Plushie <3 I have a thing for plushies, and well Pepe too. So this will be a wonderful addition especially love that his little claws are clips so we can attach him to our heads/other stuff.

I didn't really get it either, but my guess is that it's a combination of cuteness and interactivity but without existing for the sake of making you grind.
