If outlaw gets the buffs it need then Outlaw, otherwise I am sticking to Assassination.

I've watched all Final Boss's videos about the rogue spec's. Outlaw seems too RNG (Roll the Bones ftw). Sub is a bit cluncky, kinda slow, but bursty sometimes. Assa is, for me at least, the best of the three, because the use of the CD's and the rupture snapshot with vanish etc seems really fun, just like the old festerblight UH DK at MoP ! I love melee dot specs, and the energy regen seems to be the fastest of the three too.
All of the info you have is quite afew builds out-dated.
Outlaw's rtb buffs got buffed so that they are all offensive - reducing the bad rng and making it a dps loss to fish very much, if at all. The spec's damage is complete utter shit though, but that's not because of rng.
Sub's clunkiness comes from no automatic bar paging during shadow dance (you can do it manually or macro /changeactionbar to things). Sub's the fastest paced spec by far, i'd even go as far as predicting that it will be approaching GCD capped at points. Energy and combo points overflow.
Assassination is the slow methodical spec, as it is now. Rupture does not snapshot. It's definitely the DoT spec, though with rupture being 40% of the damage it's a bit odd. Multipatch scaling falls behind too.
I've been playing Assassination since TBC, I don't think I'll change
Thanks for the informations, it is 3 weeks old, the builds must change quite fast now that the game is so close to live. I'm happy to hear that the RNG is gone for outlaw, sad about the dps, but it can be fixed.
I prefer sub over assa, so if you're right, I'll probably go with the fast paced spec, because I love having a lot to do, and not just waiting for the energy to come back.
I think it's sad that I'll end up going Assassination with Legion not because the spec looks good, but because the other specs have been fucked up so badly.
-Insert witty signature here-
I'm likely going Sub for the following reasons:
- Assassination has no control.
- Combat has horrible DPS as well as RNG issues.
This is definitely more of a single target fight. The blood adds do not need to be burst down, yet the heart definitely does.
This does not look like an aoe fight. The adds behave like Mar'gok adds. You cannot aoe them down and kill them at the same time. They must be singled out.
It was my understanding that, at the very least, the fire adds cannot be grouped up, so that part is less of an AoE fight as it is burning separated adds down. I'm not sure if that mechanic carries over to the other add types.
Krosus doesn't seem to have aoe phases. The adds only spawn if players aren't doing mechanics correctly. They also cannot be interrupted and grouped up, and they hit for very little.
The aoe on Star Augur doesn't seem to be very important. The adds remind me of Malkorok adds, where it wasn't critical to burst and they were mostly passively cleaved to clean the area.
All of that to say that it looks like there is a lot less burst aoe in the first tier of Legion raiding than people seem to think. As someone looking to play Assassination, the spec seems that it will do well, if not excel, at nearly every single fight of any importance. Skorpyron won't be a huge roadblock as a first boss and almost every other aoe fight is near the beginning of the raid, or the aoe is not the focus, possibly with the exception of Tichondrius.
Barring any Rupture nerfs coming, Assassination will be in high demand because of the extreme amount of cleave fights and mandatory single-target burst, both of which Assassination is one of the top specs for.

Assassination is probably closest to the classic rogue everyone was used to, right? Sneaky guy with poison daggers and all that. No pirate theme, no shadow magic. I'm guessing that's some of the appeal.
I've always played my rogue as a crazy werewolf pirate with multiple personality disorder. I may us Assassination occasionally, but I expect to mostly alternate between Subtlety and Outlaw.

i think the best spec for killing other rogues is assassination. during pvp and thinking about other classes won't be as versatile as sub with other class combinations. so its either a better chance at versing other classes to sacrifice to be king of rogue killers. in regards to pvp.

Hi guys, I was wondering what spec is for you the "jack of all trades" when it comes to the rogue.
When it comes to raiding, you need to have good ST damage, but the AoE can't be too shitty, so I was wondering which specs was the one that is good in ST but not too bad in AoE ?
I really want to play sub, and I probably will regardless of how good it is. What worries me is the current state of sub on live, being completely dependent on BHTV to do competitive damage in PvE, and just being garbage in pvp.
I don't fancy waddling around tunnelling healers as assassination and roll the bones ruins combat for me.
It feels like a case of picking the least bad spec, rather than a spec that jumps out with raw appeal.
The lost of bhtv will just move damage from SS to finisher with finality. Early sim show it scaling much better than assa so at least for PvE that's a plus. I also like the flow of the spec a lot, the only thing that I don't like is that you overcap CP a lot during shadow blade and the CP procs are unrideable. I really don't mind having to play assa or outlaw tho, I find the 3 specs to be good and fun to play.
outlaw for me , tired of fist weapons . i want swords now !!
Im changing mains, from druid to rogue and I'll be maining Assassination
