sure you can go survival, if you dont ever want a raid spot. no matter how good sv is it will never be considered viable. no one in there right mind is going to take a NOT ranged hunter. especially when every melee spec except feral druid is better in every way.

Have some non-anecdotal evidence, undergeared and pulling 770k, SV is hard there are a lot of buttons to hit and BM/MM hunters who shit talk would never be able to perform that well, guaranteed 95% of hunters would not be able to do the rotation and pull good numbers.
or you could play fury warrior, have 4-5 less buttons to push, not have to maintain dots and do 400k more dps. why would you want to have more to do for less payoff? its not like the st play style is fun Mok'Nathal is pure butt cancer.

Guess you're allowed to raise your opinions, but please people contemplating giving survival a go, don't retain this rubbish. A high skill ceiling is a greater challenge, and you can look for yourself and compare the difference in top log dps. I promise there's no fight with a 400k dps disparity (padfests discluded)

Only a stupid raid leader would turn away a raider just because of the spec they're playing (Unless they're unviable for that fight... very rare)

Source: I main'd marksman throughout legion, swap'd to BM for the first time for mythic Augur and Elisande (movement reasons), and am now survival for Guldan (melee reasons).
It's just as viable as any other spec out there.

I'm not even against hunter's having a melee spec but I have no attachment to it and it's very obvious why people aren't doing it more.

Lol though at basing viability of a spec based on late tier parses and a couple fights where their gimmick actually works.
So full of shit on so many levels. Gimmick fight? Late tier parses? Remember when BM and MM was shit before 7.2? Survival was the supreme best hunter spec in early Nighthold.

If it has any logic, BM is the gimmick with it faceroll playstyle and MM with its aoe "padding" (I am being sarcastic on this last part btw)

    Mythic Guldan, the gimmick fight.

Yep one fight Survival is good on and mostly due to ranged not being desirable hunters switched to survival just for that fight.. every other fight bm shits over Survival.. with unlimited mobility/ranged and "faceroll" playstyle.. so why play a clunky melee spec no one wanted?

Its not only one fight, and ye survival can be a bit clunky. Thats not the point. And no, its not the reason why people go surv there. Majority goes BM on mythic guldan, but survival is just better on that fight.

I see you skipped the sarcasm point. Any spec can be some sort of "gimmick". Saying that surv is only a gimmick spec makes no sense. Just as gimmicky as the meme MM build, or the faceroll BM playstyle. Its all gimmick right? (some sort of sarcasm here as well, please take it)

Everyone can play whatever spec they want, if majority does not want to play survival, then sure, by all means. But stop thinking you are cool if you try to tell what spec people should play or not. Its just silly. Survival is viable. Wich is the main point.

Remember in EN when no one played BM? When everyone was MM. People laughed at people playing BM, wich is also pretty silly.

If you want to pull good numbers its not going to be faceroll just fyi. You will need to keep track of certain buffs and play well.

Survival is really good for PvE, especially AoE but it feels really bad for PvP.

For you maybe, but it's the best spec in rated arena right now.
