    PreOrder & Origin

So i guess that if you have preordered the game you will be able to download the client a few days before the release date.

Does anyone know if this must be done through Origin? I really don't want this Spyware on my computer.
I would definatly cancel my preorder if i have to use Origin.

If you preordered digital version you have to get origin. If you preordered it from lets say gamestop or w/e, you wont need origin.

I preordered the Normal Box Version through Amazon.

The question is: Are they offering a normal Download for Users like me or do we also have to use Origin if we want to have Early Access.

You will download the client from swtor.com, no origin involved. Origin is only needed for digital preorders.

Sorry to correct you. But this is false.

"Regardless of what other games may choose to do in their integration with Origin's desktop client, here's what our situation is:

You are not required to use the Origin desktop client to download, patch or play the game client for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

This applies whether you purchase The Old Republic via Origin.com or from a retailer in boxed form. You will not be forced to install the Origin desktop client.

There are still various consumer benefits to the client itself, but it's not required for The Old Republic."

Invasion of privacy is always a good consumer benefit.

This is 100% right. The only moment when you require Origin (not even the client, the homepage works too) is to purchase a digital version. Once you redeemed the key on your account and we move closer to launch, you can download the Swtor client and use it just like the WoW client.

Better get your computer off the net if you think Origin is all you have to worry about. Now if you want to talk about how its still in beta and is buggy as hell, then you have a argument. But to think Origin is the only thing making your computer habits public, you are sorely mistaken.

Try packet sniffing sometime, then you can come back tell us how you feel about what Origin is sending out about you.

OT: It is my understanding that no matter how you purchase the game, SWTOR.com will provide the client should you choose to get it directly from them. They have said numerous times that Origin is simply a place to purchase the game, they have no control over the online use of the product.

You just advocated Origin being a spyware program by saying "well other things might do it." <Snip> Not needed and only warning.

You or anyone else's personal vendetta against Origin has no place here, as well as pointless insults. The question has been answered several times over: You don't need origin at all to download and play TOR. If you want to bash Origin do it in another thread.

It's not a Vendetta, it's about personal computer safety, Origin is a Spyware program EA can use to look at any program on your PC, it is in the terms and conditions you sign up for.

I just thank the gods Bioware did some rational thinking and made their own client that doesn't need Origin.

I really dont see what the big deal is about. It sais in the EULA that they have no right to distribute any personal information. So what if they gather your info, alot of programs already does that (WoW scans all your programs, if you have signed up on swtor they have your address etc). And if you have preordered a game you have most likely already payed with a credit card and written down your personal information so they have it that way anyway.
Origin works perfectly fine for me and I have no trouble with them searching my computer. Are you guys really that afraid that they will search your porn folder?

My point is that Origin is not the first, only, or last that does this. Unless your using Linux, your OS is doing the same thing. So please stop using this as a argument to bash Origin. Dont get me wrong, it sucks compared to things like Steam. But lets be real here.

Closing this since it is nothing but an Origin flamefest. One places produces and article about how Origin will steal all your infos and suddenly it is an established truth. AFAIK they changed their terms to better define "software" which cause the issue in the first place. Nowhere in the terms does it say they will snoop and share your files. The terms are no different than what you sign for Steam or WoW and are even less invasive than Facebook.
