So, moving off the VA discussion a bit, apparently the translation team made a bit of a long-term oopsie

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t....%29?p=2694997

If you're scared of links, basically the way the team translated Astrologist has wound up coming to bite them, as the Astrologians that we'll be playing are apparently going to be Sharlayan and not Ishgardian, the Ishgardian Astrologians are literally just Astrologists, while the Sharlayan ones are more apt for actually putting their knowledge to use in spellcraft.

I do appreciate that it caused them to put together a completely coherent and understandable lore explanation for why they're not going to fix it, and especially that it may have caused story to show up where there wouldn't have been one before.

I recall they had a similar issue with the last boss in the first wing of CT, and they also worked that into the story (if you talk to an NPC, they state they hadn't translated the Allagan texts describing him properly, but figured it out when Syrcus came out).

Yeah... the localization makes some questionable choices.

Leves for example, in Japanese the Leves have the category of what they are. Escort, kill, yadiyada.
This is imo insanely helpful. You can avoid some you don't want to do or whatever.

Spells are funny translations for Scholar at least.
「鼓舞激励の策」 = Encouragement Plan = Adloquium. This is actually relatively accurate but it's latin.
「士気高揚の策」 = Raise Morale Plan = Succor. Which is actually somewhat accurate.
「野戦治療の陣」 = Field Medical Formation = Sacred Soil. Admittedly sacred soil sounds better.
    「生命活性法」 = Life Activity Act = Lustrate.
    「生命浄化法」 = Life Purification Act = Leech.

FATEs translation is terrible for the most part.

Ah right, ミアズマバースト = Miasma Burst = Fester. Not sure how it became fester...
Honestly at points I have no idea what things some people are asking because some of the names are different in Japanese.
Conflagration in T5 = Flame Storm. It gets kinda confusing.

Honestly, Miasma Burst makes no sense to me. You're not exploding just Miasma's damage but all of your dots'. Miasma Burst doesn't imply that all, fester kind of does.

You know what I hate most about this game? The ridiculously small distance in which aggro is lost. I dodge a few attacks, and before I know it, they're invulnerable and back to full health. It's the single most obnoxious thing I've experienced, and they really need to find a way to rework that crap.

Yes, I know how to kite in a circle, but honestly, sometimes there are other enemies around and I want to go the direction I know is safe. But I can't, because crap.

I really enjoyed the ROG storyline - all the class quests fit together very nicely and the story was genuinely gripping. I unlocked the NIN job last night so I intend to make it a point to get that to level 50 and then decide whether I want to stick with that or my DRG. Though if the MCH is as fun as I think it'll be then I'll shelve both in favour of that when the expansion hits.

This has bothered me a few times as well. It really feels like they should have longer leashes.

ROG was one of the stories where the characters walk off to disappear into the crowds and i wanted to see more before starting NIN. I love NIN and it might be my new main class, got it in full raid gear and up to T9 already but i still wanted to see more of the rogues and that lalafell officer.
Maybe i just got used to my time in wow though where characters showing up were eye rolling moments instead and this is a nice change of pace.

Guys a weird question! So me and my friend just lvled to 17 and so far in the chat we havent seen almost anything! There are tons of people in Ul dah, gridania and limsa lominsa but nothing in the form of spam in chat! How come? I thought I d see people trying to sell stuff, recruit for free companies etc! We re in phoenix eu which sometimes has a queue as well! Do you know whats up with that or do people just dont spam for that stuff in game?
Also what effects does chosing an alliance have? Our FC is tied to maelstrom and I want to go maelstrom too but my friend wants twin adder! Will that have any effect on us playing together? Do the quests and pvp change?

Hm, you might have shouts turned off? Might wanna give the chat options a looksee.

To answer about GC, ultimately the only thing that will effected by your choice is PvP. You can only do frontlines with those of your GC. So you wouldnt be to do them with your friend if he goes Twin Adder. Other than that, it really doesn't effect much. Only other thing that is really different is the look of the Grand Company Allied Seals gear.

Killed Titan EX yesterday finally after a few weeks. Man, I didn't have such a (great) feeling when downing a boss since I was in AQ40 with my guild in WoW vanilla.

Anyway, if you don't already see where I'm going with this, allow me to spell it out: the only meaningful MMORPG "endgame" -- i.e., something novel to do after the progression process is over -- is that of the sandbox.

Titan EX isn't that bad... if people know how to move. Which in a pug can get really bad. Ramuh EX is the same.

Titan is that bad IMO because even if people do know how to move, if you get a lag spike or servers are having a fit all of that means nothing.

It's a bit worse if you're European as well, having to play on Canadian servers and all

But yeah, the whole fight is basically just getting the dodges right. We had 4 guys from FC and 4 from Duty Finder that knew how to dodge, that's all it takes. The last phase, with double plumes, bombs, adds and 5 side landslides gets pretty damn hectic though.
