Dude, you are stubborn aren't you?

How can you perceive a time period of THREE THOUSAND years as a "part of the lore where the Empire falls"? Do you realize how small the time span of the movies is compared to that, and how much still happened in that small time span?

For all we know, during those 3k years, the Empire and Republic can be destroyed and reborn a dozen times over.

And you also kind of ignored my huge-ass post on the "Sith lose" issue =)

Pretty much there is enough time from when the game takes place for either side to win the immediate conflict, fight all over again down the road, and have the chess board of the galaxy set up the right way for the next point in lore.

The way I see it. Star Wars depicts the classic Eternal Order/Chaos (Good/Evil, Angels/Demons) War. This War will NEVER end in favor of either side. Some local (timeline-wise) wars can be won but victory will last for a short time and then the war will continue.

Jedi won? Bam! Jedi Schism Number Whatever and Republic is in war with the New Sith Empire Number Whatever.

Sith won? Bam! They weaken themselves in a power struggle and Empire collapses allowing remaining Jedi to come out of their exiles and start to rebuild the New Republic Number Whatever.

So I really see no problem here. We (I) do not know who will win this one.

Very much so, but knowing the future doesn't mean you can't enjoy what's inbetween.

This might be breaking the NDA, but the outcome was unwittingly announced when the title of the first expac was leaked.

    " Before the dark times"
    "BEFORE the Empire"

so yea while this game is set THOUSANDS of years into the past according to a Jedi Master from the movies Jedi were the ruling faction during those times.

movies is not apart of the starwars universe outside the movies. As posted by trolls on the 2nd page.

The two are different universes according to lucas.

Why does there have to be a winner? I don't get it.

The struggle between the two factions as well as the 3rd party enemies that will arise are more than enough to make a game out of.

They could do a TON of stuff with the 1000 years they have to play with. A totally "Evil" 3rd faction for ex. The Borg that threaten both Empire and Republic and players have to put aside differences and defeat the enemy.

    A few points:
    1. Obi-wan skipped history classes. He was just a Padawan when the war started. No time for history hours during a war in which he was a general.
    2. Jedi are a myth in episode 4. He might've exaggerated. He was old too. Memory issues. He forgot lightsaber combat - so might've forgot some history, he never knew to begin with.
    3. Thousands of generations is more than 20000 years. So basically he's speaking about the whole republic history here. Which he had no clue about.
    4. Guardian != Ruler. Even in exile Jedi remains a guardian of the republic. It's just a catchy title, really.

Obi-wan was at the end of his padawanship when Episode 1 occurs - Qui-Gon says something along the lines of him being ready to be a master (which happens at the end of Episode 1).

    OT:
It took Palpatine what, 40 years total, maybe, to "wipe out" the Jedi and become Emperor? From the beginning of Episode 1 until the end of Episode 6 can't be more than 40 years, maybe 50 tops. We aren't even talking a full century to complete his grand design and get de-throned.

The point is - BW doesn't NEED 3k years to tell this story - they HAVE 3k, but we won't be playing 3k worth of years. We will have a few decades at most. However it ends in a few decades, there are still plenty of thousands of years to have more skirmishes between the Sith and the Jedi to get the lore in line with the movies.

Yet palpatine said in episode 3 "once more the sith shall rule the galaxy" which means they must have ruled at least once before his galactic empire.
and who says jedi cant be the "gurdians of peace" at the same time while the sith rule the galaxy?
the jedi were never extinct before, only palpatine accomplished that as far as we know, but the sith have obviously ruled during an aera while there were still many jedi there, who saw themselves as "guardians of peace", while fighting the ruling sith.

Where does it say this? To be extinct, every single one had to be gone. I don't recall that ever happening.

You would think gamers would know a bit about how comic's work and their multiple universes. Take a look at the new Star Trek movies, they are changing the time line with a completely acceptable reason as to why. Star Wars is no different.

Yes but Star Trek is making it perfectly obvious that it is a completely different time line - that nothing that happened in the series is applicable anymore, everything has changed - whole other world. There is no obvious line like that with SW - it's the opposite, most writers of SW try to keep to lore so that everything flows together.

No, he stated in interview at 90's when he was starting with prequels that all of the EUis non-canonical and any Star Wars fan would know it if they were truly into the stuff. Books, games and all that shit has no real bearing in the actual SW universe, be it for good or bad.

Actually, considering how the things usually go, Sith are going to win.

There is a Jedi driven Respublic.
Sith show up, kill almost all Jedi.
Sith Empire sits on the spoils for some time.
Few remaining Jedi muster up forces and overcome them.
Sith go into hiding. Jedi Respublic thrives.
Sith come out of hiding, kill almost all Jedi.
    And so on.

Im going to have to disagree with that as I think its painfully obvious.

In Star Wars you have either Lucas Star Wars or you have fan made Star Wars.

Even within the fan made books, you still have variations. The only difference is that they set their stories in different parts of the time line so that they CAN flow together. Bioware can simply say that this is their universe and it will play out as they see fit. Back to the Star Trek reference, Bioware can easily put something into play that changes the timeline and shifts in their direction and away from any books or movies.
