Mini Games: What would you like to see in?

I was replaying KOTOR, as you do, and I thought the racing game was pretty simple, cool & fun. I was thinking that it would be great for there to be a multiplayer version of it in SWTOR, something like wipeout.

Imagine a ranking like WoW's arena ladder, and points earned to buy stuff for your racer.

I would like to see Sabacc in game, and make certain cards extremely rare and hard to find, or gained from achievements, ect.

Swoop races would be cool also, although i think that people would expect alot more from that then a mini game due to "The Phantom Menace" thinking.

dude sabacc would be AWSOME to play in game. but the deck is already set, its not like Pazzak where you gather cards. Think poker in space with a 21 twist(well you have to get 23 or 0 for perfect sabacc)

The racing would be a fun side thing, and it could, like Warzones, be quite a large part of the game while only needing a few maps - 3-6 tracks would likely be more than enough, of course, the main development going into the vehicles. But still, I think it would be fun and would fit very well. Would certainly be a great way to offer another form of endgame and feeling of "progression" to allow for players to do more than the typical sort of things. Other games like that crazy chess sorta game they play on the Millenium Falcon would be good - I've seen pictures of ships in TOR that have them on, so it would be another cool little thing.

Because some people's idea of fun isn't just Dailies and Raiding for hours on end.

Swoop racing HAS to be in, so much win. Would be EPIC if you could craft/buy new parts for your swoop, to make it faster, more agile etc.

also of course Pazaak, spent WAY to much time playing, gathering rare cards etc on Kotor

because there isn't actual story and quests that are beyond max level (oh wait, there isn't. They opt to make mini games.) This is the main reason why WoW had been losing it's hold on me: the creators are are spending time on poke-wow and the like, rather than something with substance.

Yes, there are more things that are fun than raiding and dailies...and they exist outside the game too! I'm not completely against little stuff. I guess I did go overboard as this is just the start, but I'm afraid it might go the way of the popular kids, and set up mini-games throughout the game in order to keep people subscribed longer, rather than spend time on something only obtainable inside an MMO.

    So, yea...

What's the problem with a developer adding things that are popular and gather a large amount of people? I probably will NEVER do any pet battle type mini game. Ever. But, I would love to play some Pazaak or TRY swoop racing. For me, there should be something to do ALL the time. I quit WoW for the simple fact that there was NOTHING to do at 85.

    Yeah, I raided.
I had all my skills maxed.
I didn't own all the rare Archeology items, but it really wasn't fun. At all.
I would farm endlessly for rare mounts/pets.
I farmed all the cooking/engineer recipes I could.
I got my purple drake back in LK.
    Both LK and Cata Loremaster.
    I did a little PvP.

After all of that boring crap, there was no fun ENDURING thing to keep me hooked.

How better to kill some time with some gambling in a cantina with people on your server? Or go out and do some space battles and upgrade your ship? Or go and try to be the fastest swoop racer on your server?

    Dynamic mini-games would be wonderful.

I'm going to clarify my stance a little. I'm not AGAINST some form of in-game mini-game. I was mistaken in my initial response; it was an exaggerated response on an event that has yet to be seen to happen: The MMO being a platform to play mini-games with friends as it's primary function.

I'd like to address a sort of related topic on this part though. Why do you think it's "required" for a game to have something to hook you for every free hour of your day? Why can't the game be good for it's couple of things, then leave players with some options. If they don't like those options they can do something else. I understand from the business side why: to get more money, but I'm confused as to why players want this sort of time sucking mechanic. Why do you want something in the game to play that you can play outside the game (and most of the time, with the same friends as you could in-game. The internet is a wonderful place).

But, back to the topic, I can't say I know much about the Star Wars pass-times, but from a purely RP standpoint, gambling would be a must have. It fits with the story and mood of the game, and is not shoehorned in in any way. I guess there could be a couple other things that could be added in as a distraction from other "proper" MMO-RPG pass times, such as saving a village or rescuing a diplomat, but never as an alternative to such things. We don't want our lovely games to take the route of facebook games.

Now I've said too much. This should be about mini-games you'd like to see, and I've said my point on that topic now. Sorry to stir up a ruckus!

I don't really care for swoop racing. I'd love Pazaak though.

If you could play Pazaak for credits, that would be fun. I'm sure people would exploit it though.

I wonder if there are some legal restrictions about having gambling, even for in-game credits, in a computer game.

I don't think there are. I'm currently playing Fallen Earth to pass the time until ToR release and they have a casino with slot machines. But then again, maybe that could be the restriction.
