VPLC and me - Should I favor Crit over Mastery?

Variable Pulse Lightning Capacitator. Works off crits. Ilvl probably isn't a factor but I'm 385. Should I be stacking Crit after haste as opposed to mastery?

I'm sure the answer was around here at one point, however I missed it.

It's a bit of a debate atm really. I haven't seen anyone prove it either way. I have been trying to mess around with switching between the two in raids to see if there is any real difference and I haven't really seen any... though I am wondering if it might be that I am not adding enough crit for it to make a real difference = /

Arlee with the quick response! Nothing solid eh? If I had to guess I'd imagine it isn't worth it. Probably doesn't matter too much anyway, 4.3 right around the corner.

How's your staff coming along? Can I hijack my own thread? lol

Lol, unless you plan on hitting 1800 crit and no mastery. scratch that idea

what type of fights are we talking about because obviously on H rag mastery is always going to win

but alyrazor crit might work when you only do one burn phase

We're half-assing H Rag, but since that's all that's left for us I'll dump the Crit idea then.

Yeah I love running H:NF/VPLC, hated tracking Volcano. Now I can be lazy.

with my gear and vplc my stat priority from sims is haste>crit>mastery. i reforged mastery were i could to crit and will try it out but im sure it wont be a noticeable difference

I personally noticed a change in stats after I got VLPC. Haste>Crit>Mastery -- VLPC caused crit to pull slightly ahead of mastery.

    I ran you through simc 3 times and got similar results each time, the one below being the last attempt;
    Code:
Int	Spi	SP	Hit	Crit	Haste	Mastery
    Scale Factors	0.0000	1.8163	2.3137	1.7219	1.4615	1.7643	1.3195
Then again, I'm a noob at Simcraft, too. I usually just sim myself!

Also, I totally forgot Kilee did this on a private forum at H2P, so I'll include it here.

Testing VPLC's affect on stat weights

    Normal: 32151 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Crit: .5183
    Haste: .5017
    Mastery: .4543

Trinket proc turned off: 31109 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Haste: .4962
    Crit: .4848
    Mastery: .4486

Reforge for "extreme" crit: 30995 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Haste: .5117
    Crit: .4608
    Mastery: .4215

Same set with VPLC turned off: 29859 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Haste: .5102
    Crit: .4444
    Mastery: .4417

Reforge for "extreme" mastery: 30737 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Haste: .5782
    Crit: .4907
    Mastery: .4067

Same set with VPLC turned off: 29740 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Haste: .5698
    Crit: ..4666
    Mastery: ..4016

Conclusion: Equiping VPLC increases crit by about .2.

    Legendary testing

    Normal: 37412 dps
    Int: 1.0 (4.1064)
    Haste: .53
    Crit: .5038
    Mastery: .4748

Legendary proc turned off: 33756 dps
    Int: 1.0 (3.6761)
    Haste: .5268
    Crit: .5116
    Mastery: .4907

Conclusion: The legendary makes intellect scale much better, which drives down the value of secondary stats slightly. With respect to each other, there's no significant change in the secondary stats (you could perhaps say haste is a "tad" move valueable with a legendary in hand than without).

Testing the 2-piece tier 12 bonus

    Normal: 32151 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Crit: .5183
    Haste: .5017
    Mastery: .4543

    Without 2-piece tier 12: dps
    Int: 1.0
    Haste: 5.012
    Crit: .4888
    Mastery: .467

Conclusion: 2-piece tier 12 increases crit by about .3.

Testing the 4-piece tier 12 bonus

    Normal: 37412 dps
    Int: 1.0 (4.1064)
    Haste: .53
    Crit: .5038
    Mastery: .4748

    Without 4-piece tier 12 bonus: 36216 dps
    Int: 1.0 (4.0427)
    Haste: .5269
    Crit: .5161
    Mastery: .4629

Conclusion: Similar to the legendary test. Stat weights did not change, but the 4-piece bonus drives up the weight of intellect which pushes all of the secondary stats down somewhat.

Theory: If I turn off VPLC and 2piece tier 12, crit will sim below mastery.

    Normal: 32151 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Crit: .5183
    Haste: .5017
    Mastery: .4543

Without 2-piece tier 12 and VPLC: 30161 dps
    Int: 1.0
    Haste: .5021
    Mastery: .4667
    Crit: .4561

´sim it for you char -> simcraft stills says for me haste>mastery>crit
vplc did push crit a bit but it´s still behind mastery for my gear setup
Thanks for that awesome signature i4ni

Yea I meant to link what veiled did too but /lazy

On a side note tonight I was running with 23% which is a good bit more than normal (I had FM for once) and my dps was about 2k more on average... but, there are other mitigating factors so I still don't know how much that is indicative of crit actually being better than mastery though.
