I've been reading about the various sith lords throughout history, and they always seem to end up dying in a duel between a jedi. So are there any sith lords that kicked supreme ass and never lost?

Well ... I'd probably say the emperor for now :P . Somehow he has lived ridiculously long time and while his plans have suffered set backs, he is still alive. While at it he has managed to bring up the empire that in swtor shakes the foundations of rebublic.

There is cool official lore! I wonder when they release more of that :C!
The whole rule that you need to kill your master to become a Sith Lord throws a whole wrench in that.
The rule of 2 tho wasn't always around and in the legacy era or star wars the rule of 2 is gone again, and in teh legacy era the sith have been owning alot but from wat ive seen even Darth Krayt has lost now, but he was alive for a hundred and something years so i think he did rather well

Additionally, "evil" is naturally self-destructive. In the end, they defeat themselves if there's no one around to do it for them.
Actually, Mr. Lennon, I CAN imagine a world with no hatred, religion, war, or violence.
I can also imagine attacking such a world, because they would never see it coming.

For once, Carville was a man ahead of his time.
I would consider the sacking of Coruscant in "Deceived" and the retaking of Korriban in "The Return" to be Sith triumphs. Also in the films, Palpatine converted Anakin Skywalker and eradicated the Jedi in Episode 3. So the Sith definitely have their moments.

My moneys on Revan, haven't heard/read anything about him being killed.
"Holy bananas Ghostcrawler, ferals are doing well in pvp again!"
"What!? To the nerfmobile!"
Unless you are reading Warhammer 40k Books, you will rarely find a place that has evil winning in the end. The closest you usually get is Shakespearean stalemate (Othello) or Everybody dies (Romeo & Juliette).
If you have read much of the Star Wars books you'll find they are loaded down with the Rebellion having moments of good fortune followed by more moments of good fortune, despite going up against the most powerful, best trained most accurate-shooting troops ever seen. If things had been a little more realistic, then all Rogue squadron would have simply been shot to pieces by overwhelming numbers at Yavin and the rebel base would have been destroyed.
Here's the thing, though. In an MMO, or pen&paper RPG, players can play both sides, so you HAVE to give them equal chances of winning. All the rules of "Good must Prevail, Evil must be Vanquished" are thrown out the window. I have, a number of times, played Storm Troopers in a SW RPG, or even simply Orcs in a DnD game, and massacred the good guys.
While I intend on playing republic (consular) I'm happy that victory is not guaranteed. There is a good, long, thread on the forum Sadness of the Sith where this topic was discussed. If you are interested I recommend reading there.
well every one looses sooner or later
