New Computer, Critique on build please

So Christmas is coming up and I agreed with to get a new desktop if I pay for half of it. I would like to see if there's any corner where price could be cut some. And I live in the US.

I'm currently playing Starcraft II and Minecraft, which I know don't required much to run. But, In college next year I plan on hopefully doing Computer Sciences/Game Design so it should be able to run anything a may be using.

Also this will be the first computer I'll ever build.

    MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...A-D3H-B3%20LGA 130$

    PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 110$

    Optical drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118031 17$

    Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009212 130$

    Total: 1164$ (including windows 7)
    Budget: keep near around 1200$

Feel free to ask for anything I may have missed. . .

This is a strong build, and will most likely meet your needs, but if since your doing game design, im guessing that will involve 3d modeling and rendering and other designy things. ATM your computer, in my opinion, will handle those jobs fine for a student (since your not in career mode yet). but if you really want to push it, you could upgrade to a 2600k which is a 4core 8threads, where as the 2500k is 4cores 4threads. the 4 additional threads will improve tasks such as rendering ect. however i dont see the 2500k letting you down at all, even when taking college into account.

In conclusion, your build is good, and in my opinion will suffice for your college needs.

All looks good so far. You can't really strip out anything except maybe drop CPU heatsink unless you are overclocking from day one, and could also save a bit getting cheaper PSU, but that's about it.

For schoolwork you might want to get second monitor eventually (or use old you already have) but besides that there's nothing much to add. i7-2600K mentioned above will not be money well spent for your intended use. If you were doing 3D design and modeling primarily then maybe, but for coding it won't help at all.

    Trolling should be.

Only thing I'd like to mention is your choice of RAM, with the CM 212+ it could become a tight fit and also they're a little on the slow end. I would suggest switching to something like the G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) RAM DDR3 1600

For MB I like the ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 but they're very similar, still slightly cheaper hehe.
