Weird speaker issue (amp related i think)

So a friend of mine was looking to get rid of a 7.1 speaker system so i gave him 40 bucks...i heard it working at his place but when i brought it home and plugged everything back in all i get from the amp is a high pitch click followed by a low pitch click. the little screen displayed something for about a second then it poofed.

any idea what could be wrong?

Did you plug everything in correctly, sounds like you just blew it up.

well the only things to plug in are speakers...so yea i had everything in correctly...really hope that isnt what happened...

any way to find out??

What system is it? What amp if its not a home theater in a box? It sounds like it could have possibly clipped but not necessarily. Did it only pop twice?

its a yamaha rx-sl100 home theatre. and only twice it clicks. its just an amp, no dvd player or anything
