Actually this is incorrect. Ice tomb was hotfixed to not be affected by Smoke bomb, but Ice Lance can still temporarily break its target.

This is correct. The VP thrown is better normal vs normal and heroic vs heroic because of the mastery increase (although slight). I also think the other reason is the boomerang should increase FOK dmg since it has higher dmg (not dps since it is slower) than the razornite chip. I have not checked WoL to confirm this, but it should increase AOE dmg for an assassination rogue.

Shadowcraft also lists the VP thrown as better.

Except there's no Heroic VP gear, and FoK's damage for Assassination is vastly concentrated on poison damage and not damage from the actual FoK.

I swear I read somewhere pre-4.3 that someone talked to a GM and they confirmed that this time around you would be able to obtain 410ilvl versions of VP vendor loot. I wish I could find the blue post. I don't think I imagined it.

I'm quite sure I've seen that post somewhere as well...now, the more important question, rather than questioning it's existense, is where the hell can it be found.

Me either. It might still be true, but GMs - though often awesome creatures - are only human. Even if it did take place, it wouldn't be the first time a GM says something that turns out to be wrong.

The annoying bit is that all the 410 models are in Wowhead, along with all heirlooms we have yet to see.

Didn't they do the same thing for FL, though? That they told that there will be HC pieces of VP gear, but then it got scrapped and the files were in wowhead for some time as well (not there anymore)? Or is my memory playing tricks with me?

With 4.3.2 upon us is Starcatcher still better than Vial for Combat? I assume it is but wanted to see if anybody has some math.

It is and was never "better" and more a choice. Use Shadowcraft and your experience to determine which trinket you will use. Both may be "better in different situations.
