When you logged in to Minecraft you dident get a message to update it? i got it last night atleast and the update should be worldwide.
As befor you logg in it says 1.8 news but after you logged in it says 1.0.0 in the courner.

why don't you try reading the update log? you know that might have some info on what they might have done to the game (not sure on this though /sarcasm)

If you've played 1.9 Pre-release at all, not much has changed from the last one.

Anyway.. Here's the obvious thing you should have tried already..:
Launch the Minceraft Launcher, click options, click "Force Update", then click done and login.

If you don't get an "Update now" message you should go to "Options" and there should be a button that says "Force Update"
