    CPU Help.

I want to update my processor and was wondering what I needed to check to see if a processor is compatible. My motherboard supports an AM3 socket so I have found the processor that looks good but is there anything else I need to check?

    Motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...HD-hSLI%20R2.0

    Processor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=6&subcat=1944

    Thanks in advance.

Im not as knowledgeable with AMD as intel, but it should be fine as long as that is all you are changing. Two other things of note though: 1)You may need to reinstall your operating system when switching to your new CPU though, so make sure you have a copy available. 2 You will want to make sure your case has enough room for the CPU cooler as some CPU cooler are big and might interfere with your GPU or other parts.

You're fine with that choice of CPU, it will work with your board

That webpage you linked has CPU compatibility list on the left hand menu bar. The processor you linked is at the top of the list, so yes, it should be compatible but will probably require BIOS upgrade on the board first.

Also important thing to keep in mind is that the board is so old that it makes the processor run about 20% slower than it normally would in a new board, which is why it's not a great idea. Also x6 1090 will not run games any faster than x4 965 but it will cost more.
