    Question Assassin, Sorcerer or Operative?

I am torn between 3 classes: Assassin, Sorcerer, and Operative. From a bird's eye view, my understanding is that these are my real choices:

    1) Assassin - Melee DPS with stealth and some ranged ability (enh shaman), can respec to melee DPS with strong survivability / tanking or better stealth / burst. Class is defined by strong AoE knockback.

    2) Sorc - Ranged DPS with decent survivability, mobility and crowd control. Clas is defined by kinetic barrier ability, can respec to heal (no interest) or act as an affliction warlock (even less interest).

    3) Operative - Melee DPS with stealth and "shotgun" ranged, seems like less survivability than Assassin but perhaps better stealth / burst (more similar to WoW rogues). Can respec to heal (no interest).

Given that #2 and #3 heal vs #1's ability to tank, and given that I have very low interest in healing (particularly since #1 can self-heal), I am slightly leaning towards Assassin still. What am I missing?

My playstyle is casual PvP / hardcore PvE. I played a rogue in WoW since release, so I feel at home with stealth classes, but am not afraid to go outside of my comfort zone if it will result in a positive experience.

I've played operative to level 20 and it's AMAZING at current. very fun and unique to play. That would be my suggestion. What do you prefer? range or melee?

No real preference. I have always played melee, which is why I am considering sorcerer. I like the fact that assassins can spec for being a semi-ranged class. The same attribute draws me towards the Operative, particularly over Sniper as I do not want to be a mobile turret.

By the way, would you mind giving me a quick crash course on the non-healing Operative spec lines?

One thing that you can keep in mind is that you will be able to take a Sith Inquisitor to 10 before you really get a chance to taste the pure assassin's skills. Up until that point you are a hybrid of each, with a lot of short-distance force attacks and limited melee. I'd recommend putting in the time to 10 and decide with those two if you prefer the closer combat or if you'd like a bit more range. If you end up liking the range, you can go Sorcerer and if you like the close combat you can go Assassin.

I liked the feel myself of the melee consular and was hoping to get to Shadow but didn't last weekend. The energy system is most like a rogue from WoW when compared to an operative from my understanding, and you do get mainly robes, so keep that mind for both Sith classes. If you are wanting armor rather than robes, go Operative.

Actually if you go Concealment Operative, you'll be using vibroblades and poisons, it's a very roguish playstyle.
http://www.torhead.com/calculator/skill#401 The top talents use a vibroblade instead of a gun like the Scoundrel.
You'll still be using the cover mechanism sometimes even though it's not as important as it is for the sniper because of your stealth, so take into consideration whether you like it or not.
http://www.torhead.com/calculator/skill#200 Overall you'll get higher survivability as an Assassin, but you'll also be using force moves with that.
Look at the talent trees and abilities, and pick the class that feels more right for you.

    1. Tank - Melee DPS

    2. Heal - Ranged DPS

    3. Heal - Melee DPS

    Figure out which you prefer.

No, go SI, I want to be the only IA ever!

hehe, naw, jsut playing. Based on what you've already stated on your opinion, you just want to DPS really. They are all wonderful classes and can all dps. It just depends on the flavor you want. If you're interested in how the class story will go though, I think the IA has got to be the most interesting.

Also, you can't beat the IA starship!
