    MoP Warlock talent calculator

I was browsing some of the abilities and talents, and I noticed something interesting. First, Dark intent offers 6% spellpower to the recipient, but also Demonic Portal "Create a demonic gateway between two locations. Stepping into the gateway causes any party member to be transported to the other gateway." Does this seem more like mages teleport?

Also, this sounds cool. "Metamorphasis-Carrion Swarm. While in metamorphasis, your shadowflame knocks any enemies away from you"

And "Unending Resolve-The warlock hardens his skin reducing all damage taken by 50% and preventing his spells from being interrupted for 12 seconds." o.O

And the Illidan talent has been replaced with "Mannaroth's Fury"

A lot of times we say things like "not final" and "may change" as verbal wiggle room should we decide we need to go a different direction, or are unable to complete something in time. In this case of the Mists of Pandaria calculator data is essentially pre-alpha, and will absolutely change in many ways.

It was important for us to get this stuff in front of you as soon as possible though (and as a work in progress as it is) to get your feedback, which will in no small part influence that change. We also wanted to present everything on a single page to give you a fuller context for the initial talent changes we announced at BlizzCon, and to see how the overall structure of core abilities, spec abilities, and talents will function, with concrete examples.

The calculator contains elements that are experimental, still in the process of implementation, or in some cases outright failed experiments that we already intend to revise or replace. Odds are good that if it looks like we’ve forgotten some critical piece of a particular class toolkit, it’s either accounted for elsewhere, or simply a data glitch (e.g., Prayer of Healing is currently absent from the calculator – we are not taking Prayer of Healing away from priests, and Devastate for warriors probably won't sunder armor 453%). Our hope is that revealing the calculator in this state will shed light on the philosophy behind our talent overhaul, and let you get a sense of how pieces of your core rotational gameplay, such as Hot Streak, Riptide, or Sudden Doom, fit into the new system.

The different classes are also at very different stages of design and implementation, and the fact that some mechanics changes we discussed at BlizzCon and in recent Q&As are not yet present does not mean that we have abandoned those ideas.

Any and all feedback is very welcome, but please keep all of the above in mind when considering the information in the talent calculator, and please keep feedback consolidated in the Mists of Pandaria forum: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/2592425/
And a handy-dandy list of all the changes, because oh boy are there changes.

Perfect example of why "community" forums are poisonous to the health of a development team. These developers are wasting hundreds of hours trying to stem the tide of incessant bitchery that would never, ever abate so long as these entitled, unfortunate human beings don't get their way.

more fun stuff like BoA being affliction only, BoD demonology only. ( which makes me wonder what the destruction warlocks doomguard will be attacking, since that tooltip still says ' the target with BoD' )

Still needs lots of work and will probably be hell to balance, but it sure got me all kinds of excited for MoP

... I hate to cause issues, but does anyone else notice Metamorphosis does not have a duration in the spell description? >_>

EDIT: Looking at the other Demonology skills like Demonic Leap SUGGESTS that Metamorphosis is going to be a permanent form.

It's nearly the same talent, except now has an activatable component (which is very cool I might add).

What worries me is I can't see Haunt. I'm fully willing to play affliction without any ''easy mode refreshes'', I thoroughly enjoyed it with immolation as part of the rotation, but I've grown to love haunt - timing lifetap around those self heals was a nice little "mini game".

Meta probably doesn't show a duration because the duration is based on the amount of demonic frenzy you had built up. But these are some wicked talents!

    ---------- Post added 2011-11-23 at 08:24 AM ----------

Dark Intent is now a 6% sp raid buff, I guess the current incarnation is too hard to balance (not for locks, for the classes we use as targets)
The Arcane only corrupts the weak..

This is THE most awesome thing happened to Warlock over all these 7 years. Why can't I hold all this new cool talents and spells?
That's why you need me.... Need someone to punish you for your sins.

They stated Meta would work so that you could use it pretty much at any time, and that indeed the duration would be determined by the build up of your new resource.

I'm sad DI will change, there was much bitching about it but I liked the way it worked. Bit weird though to only get a spellpower buff that late, at level 82. Wonder if other classes get it that late too, or if we are just late to that particular party, like mages are late in getting timewarp compared to Shamans

Really, really nice that ANY lock can now bring the buff instead of just Demo, I was secretly hoping for this, I admit.

I agree. I think we will have to pretty much relearn how to play our different specs, they'll be so different, in terms of what to use when, priorities and general feel of what you are doing. I also think it will be FUN, it looks like they brought lock specs back to certain essences of the spec.

This is gonna be a torment! I see no spec to hate on and avoid playing it and I only have 2 spec spots! D:<

No, seriously, EPICSAUCE CANNOT WAIT GIMME NAO? > Even if PvP is unbalanced and they'll eat our faces, PvE should be really fun with these changes. The only thing I don't like is that if you want to stack embers you cannot cast conflagrate :< Unless there's a way to choose when to use them

I've thought about it before and I think if Blizz does it right it will be balanced enough that there is a certain point where it's optimal to use it, but you CAN save it for some extra OOMPH if the situation calls for it. Either with conflag or Soul Fire. I can also very much imagine that while soloing it will be pretty much optimal to just spend it as you get it.

Unless of course the visual of burning is especially cool, in which case you'll just never use conflag or soul fire EVER

EDIT: Just had a vision of the burning effect for Destro being just as cool as Meta is for Demo. >.< First time I'd actually like to be a Destro lock

Also while Demonology gets some flashy stuff, I like the overhaul on some of the Destruction talents:

Aftermath: Your Rain of Fire does not need to be channeled and will to stun all enemies within it for 2 sec. Your conflagrate will daze the target for 5 sec.

Fire and Brimstone: Your next Immolate, Incinerate, Conflagrate or Soul Fire will hit all targets within 15 yards of the target (instant cast, 10 second cooldown).

Emberstorm (Mastery): Increases benefit of Infernal Embers by 4%.

Destructive Influence: Your demon's attacks reduce the casting time of your next Soul Fire by .1 sec. Stacks up to 40 times.

Edit: give or take the new tier of talents (Life Tap minisprint is awesome).
E2: Sacrificial Pact now only takes half your demon's life rather than killing it.
E3: Howl of Terror now has its cooldown reduced every time you're hit by an attack.
E4: Dark Regeneration (T1) now has a bonus to all healing received in addition to the self healing aspect (looks like they rolled Bloodstone into it).
E5: Rain of Fire does 50% more damage to Immolated targets.

I actually said "Oh my" out loud when I read Fire and Brimstone, that has teh potential to be VERY over powered

Compare that to the lame version Affli gets of Soul swap, and Affli seems to distinctly get the short end of the awesome stick. I was kinda hoping we would get old SS back.

Is it any different to the current one? Blizzard haven't said they're removing glyphs, though they hinted that it was a possibility.

  18. #18
Yeah, they look like actual different specs

Re: losing Haunt, we'll be able to pick up enough heals from other talents, such as Soul Leach on the first tier. And for the increase in damage, we'll have the new filler to help us out there.

Have you guys seen the new rain of fire ability, given at level 54. Your ROF doesn't need to be channelled.... sounds jizzy

But people are right, we're going to find it odd, when we really do have to relearn our class (i can't wait!!!1!)

It's just a shame that we're likely to be raiding DS for a long time, indicated by the 1yr subscription i reckon. If DS was only set to be around for 7-9 months or so, they wouldn't need to "encourage" people to stay for that long, as by the time we'd have cleared DS, we'd be bombarded with MOP info, which will keep a lot of people in the game, and we'd know MOP was just around the corner. Instead, we have to get our tier gear from tokens, and there's a vast amount of gear we're going to need to get from vendors (for the hit rating sadly), making it all seem like we're going to be facing deathwing for some time to come. Unless i'm just being completely cynical maybe....

I think it'll just retain the same glyph it has now. And I agree Affliction is the least flashy, but at the same time they commented they thought it was the closest to feeling right so I'm okay with that (I like Affliction as it stands, so I'm content to see it only modified a bit with Malefic Grasp and some nifty Soul Shard changes).

Holy shit @ Fire and Brimstone. AoE Immolate, plus the Aftermath talent PLUS RoF does 50% more damage if the target is Immolated. Destro just got some serious AoE capabilities.

Also, Burning Rush: Your Life Tap causes you to move 25% faster for 8 seconds. That's like... amazing.

I am so very glad I play a warlock, as we are FINALLY getting some much needed love.
