Number 3 game curse

Aww you didn't like Sims 2? I haz a sad. I thought it brought a lot of neat updates the series needed.

While the graphical improvements and general overhaul of the core mechanics were a welcome, the illusion of the massively over-exaggerated "Free Will" engine and metric ass-ton of problems made the game almost 0% enjoyable for me. The problem with the Free Will engine? It just makes the Sims randomly do things. Their actions aren't determined by mood, various meters (bathroom, hygiene, hunger, etc.), social company, or anything like that. There is no rhyme or reason, just randomness.

It's a shame that The Sims 3 did a lot to improve the series, but also did a lot to screw it again.

I get what you mean. I do like Sims 2 a lot more than 3 still, the open world is nice, and there was a lot of needed changes, but with that came ass loads of bugs, and rabbit holes. Maxis leaving didn't help anything either.

How did you feel about the changes in gameplay? The story twist at the end was also pretty cool.

I think it's just a product of sequels not living up to the original, just like movies.

If anything, Number 2 should be the curse.

In this case, Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn't Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels was the real Super Mario Bros. 2. Unless you already knew that and was saying that Lost Levels sucked.

dont think theres a curse, what about warcraft 3, best game ever :P well not really, but its quite amazing.
Age of empires 3 did suck compared to AoE 2, battlefield 3 is awesome, MW3 is great, fable 3 sucked compared to previous ones. seems to be mostly hit and miss, dont think theres any curse.

In all seriousness, they really don't. From personal experience, I've seen more sequels that are worse than the originals. The smart developers learn from their mistakes and make the third installment blow you away.

The best examples I can think of are:
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Tropico 3: Absolute Power
Quake III
Super Mario Bros. 3
Grand Theft Auto III
Metroid Prime 3
Gran Turismo 3

Going back to horrible sequels?

Best example I could think of, Final Fantasy 3. 2 sucked and is forgotten by just about everybody and totally disregarded things FF1 did, 3 introduced a major pillar for the series (the job system)
