    Overclocking help E8500

Processor: E8500 Intel Core 2 Duo
    Cooler: Stock
    Case: Jet Turbine
    Case Fans: 4
    Motherboard: ASUS P5QC (P45)
    RAM: 2x2GB DDR3 1333MHz

Was wondering if anyone had a overclocking guide for this chip. Or could provide hints. (Unless it's as easy as OC'ing a SandyBridge Chip.)

Ok cool, thanks. Although something a little more indepth than just what your settings are would be nice? What did you do in order to get them? If you used a guide what guide did you use?

Well I've been running my PC like this for 2 years straight, I don't even remember how I did this S: But the BIOS settings should speak for them self tbh
I can ask my dad and see if he remembers, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't either "/

That's basically mine at 3.8Ghz but I'm running on 1.28V core, with my RAM at 5:4 (480MHz)

Multiplier on 9.5, FSB on 400 with EIST (speed step) on... I think that's about it (apart from manually changing the voltage)

Antec 900 Case, Basic CPU cooler otherwise I would probably go further.
    Computer: Intel I7-3770k @ 4.5GHz | 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM | AMD 7970 GHz @ 1200/1600 | ASUS Z77-V PRO Mobo|

Asked my dad and exactly what ^ said, very simple. Make sure to run Prime 95 after to make sure you setup is stable

It's not. Take extra notice to people whom mention the FSB. This is virtually left untouched on Sandy Bridge-systems.

Also if your new to overclocking look up websites like overclock.net or overclockersclub.com they have some decent guides up for pretty much every chip. Don't just grab someone else's settings plug them in a hope for the best, every chip is different so your best bet is read some guides and slowly creep up till you hit a wall of when it doesn't stay in windows long, then back down a bit and work on getting that speed stable.

I haven't had an intel cpu in about 4 years, but I did OC my gf's E4400 and its quite easy, just takes time to learn your chips needs.
    Desktop - AMD FX-8120 @ 3.8ghz - 8GB DDR3 OCZ - Sapphire 7870
    Laptop - M11X. Revision1 - 1.7ghz ULV Dual Core - 4GB DDR2 - GT335M
