Why do some achievements have you compete against your own team?

Specifically, I'm talking about the PvP achievements, such as "Defend 50 towers" or "Defend 10 bases" or "Disarm 5 bombs."

Each of these achievements requires you, personally, to be the one to complete the defense/defuse cast to receive credit. It doesn't matter if you were channeling when someone else finished - you don't get a shred of credit. And there are other examples - IOC has two examples, where you need to personally pilot a vehicle ("screw you, vastly superior pilot, I need this for my achievement!") and where you need to personally get the killing blow on vehicles ("If I attack now, I'll miss my chance to get the killing blow!")

Why are there achievements forcing you to compete against your own teammates to get them accomplished? Why aren't these achievements designed so that they reward teamwork rather than personal gains?

You've won AV 16 times. Are you already tired of it?

OT: Achievements are achievements. They don't mean anything significant, just do them.
Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

Agreed, tiresome with 4 people at flag in AB with a mage aoeing around them but noone wants to go and kill him since it would ruin their chances for the flag.

There achievements, you don't have to do them and some of them will be hard and annoying.

I side with the OP. I'm not a fan of these achievements. I've been accused of deserting areas that should be protected, when I'm only in the battleground to specifically work on achievements. These really should be team-based efforts, not individual tasks that could jeopardize your team's outcome.

My favorite backwards achievement was the "Industrial Warfare" achievement in Wintergrasp which has now been removed. It forced you to destroy 20 workshops during the Wintergrasp attack. Many of us found that the easiest way to get the kills was to destroy your own team's Workshops...
