Direct X 9 running on WoW.

Figured this might help other people out too, I was messing around in my options last night, and under

ESC > Options > Advanced > Graphics API

I noticed on both of my computers that I was still running under Direct X 9. It takes a client restart, but it's worth it if you still aren't on 11. And I wondered why I was getting abysmal frame rates on my desktop in LFR especially on fights with a lot of stuff going on.

DirectX11 only works when your GPU and OS support it.

I'm pretty sure GPUs since the NVidia GTX 4xx series and AMD Radeon 5xxx series support DX11. Not sure about the NVidia 2xx or AMD Radeon 4xxx cards. Easy trip to newegg would tell someone. ;p

    Well couple things here.

To run DX11 you have to have a DX11 capable video card and operating system. Without that you won't be doing anything in the game.

You'd be amazed how many people still run 2XX and 4XXX cards (which do not support DX11).

Obviously. I'm not trying to tell people to run DX11 if they can't. Just throwing something out there that I totally missed, and I was surprised and a little angry that I hadn't noticed it before.

Been using the SET gxApi "d3d11" line in my config ever since I could :P but I'll still double-check today to confirm, the 4.2 and 4.3 patches could've reset it.

Actually, a DX10.1 video card gains some benefit from the DX11 API... just not full benefit.

Now if only they'd update their graphics engine too.

Umm, that's kind of what the DX11 upgrade was... an update to the graphics engine. I'm thinking you're looking for shinier graphics, which doesn't mesh with Blizzard's methodology and art direction. The game looks like it does because that's how it's been designed to look, not because of limitations to the engine.

No need, hundreds of thousands of players are still raiding on their Inspires, Athlons and notebooks. Anyway WoW stopped being about graphics less than a year from release, the last 6 years it's been about gameplay. Look at LoL, the most cartoony/pixelated graphics ever and its pushing like 25mil+ players because you can play it on a calculator. The WoW engine has aged quite well, check out the newer NPC models e.g. Thrall, Aspects, etc and the upcoming Pandas. The scope of adding more polygons is still there

I set mine (before this thread, trying to get TS3 Overlay to work) to Dx11... But when I restarted WoW the User name and password box and whatnot wouldn't appear so I couldn't log in. Had to manually revert it in the WTF>Config folder.

    Anyone able to assist?

    Got a DX11 GPU?

I believe so, said that on Dxdiag.

Don't judge me, I followed a youtube video to find that.

I'm pretty sure Dxdiag just tells you your DX version based on the OS you've installed, e.g. it will always say DX11 if you're running Windows 7.

The easiest way is to find out what your actual graphics card is. Under Dxdiag to to the "Display" tab and see if you can pick out anything about your GPU. It will be a Radeon or GeForce (AMD/ATI or nVidia) if you have a physical card.

    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

Really bad at computers, and I have a really bad computer, is that what you wanted to know?

That's exactly what I wanted to know

8800GTS is pretty old and definitely not DX11-capable, it goes up to DX10. That's why you're getting glitches when forcing WoW to run at DX11.
Basically the only cards that support DX11 are AMD/ATI's HD5000 series (and above) and nVidia's GTX400 series (and above).
