What mainboard would best compliment an i5 2500? Yes, I said 2500, not 2500k like in my signature, this is a friend's build, not mine.

for a regular 2500, anything will work. H67, P67, Z68, does not matter. If he intends to upgrade to an OC capable chip in ivy bridge, than a P67 or Z68. if not, an H67 works fine. Though, recently, the Z68 boards have come down (probably due to the 2011 socket coming out), so no harm in getting one for some of the extra features.

I personally love the Gigabyte Z68-ud3h and ud4.
