Bought a brand new monitor, identical to old... But colors don't match.

Greetings friends. I recently picked up a second monitor for shits and giggles, and upon plugging it in I realize how poor color my original monitor actually was. So poor, in fact, that it's bugging the crap out of me. Both monitors are identical, and they both have the exact settings in the on screen and in Windows 7 color calibration (same ICC profiles).

I realize that this could simple be that LCD monitors colors might fade over time (my old monitor is about 2 years old), and that it could also be something with backlights or what have you. I'm just looking for some tips on how to equate them as best I can.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Edit: Obviously the new monitor is the one on the right.

Seems like something with the gamma...

I've used the "Calibrate display" option in Windows 7 to adjust the Gamma with a slider. No setting of Gamma fixes that hue.

Looks like someone in your house is a smoker, or likes to light candles. Oil or coal heating systems will do it too.

Not much you can do about it, and your new monitor will match it soon enough.

Err, what? No, this is not a smoke stain on the front of the screen. Unless that was meant as sarcasm.

It's normal for the backlight in an LCD monitor to decay over time, losing both light output and producing light of a lower kelvin temperature. You're just seeing the difference between a two year old backlight bulb and a brand new one. The change happens gradually so you don't really notice it, until you put an old monitor next to a new one of the same model I guess. The rate of decay is quickest in new bulbs and slows down over time, so eventually your two monitors will even out. In the meantime you can try increasing the color temperature of the old monitor to try and compensate.

I don't think backlight decay would account for as much difference as OP is seeing. The yellow tint is pretty dramatic on white areas.

What inputs are the monitors using? My guess is one is VGA and they other is HDMI / DVI?
